I've been waiting for someone to add a "Sport" to this game. The ability for Pawns to not only play, but gain skill and win against others. I look forward to whatever you come up with and i'll be using this mod :)

TERRIBLE NEWS, THE FIELDS ARE NOT ROTATABLE

Please add a cup or even a league with all the factions playing football against each other, maybe even add a new skill called 'footballing' or something, I'd love to send pawns to another factions base for a football match and maybe have them be happy if they've won or sad if they lost.

I like the idea of the field being able to start a ritual that simulates a football match. Personally I would keep the reward 'simple' though - like a health buff (like Standalone Hotspring) or something similar. I actually came here because I was thinking about adding that functionality myself, but seeing that you have plans already is interesting.

Another thing that comes to mind - and something I could forward to you (when I'm back home) if you want would be support for 'alternative textures' from VE. In my copy of your mod I changed the building to be one single Def/recipe (which is a bit higher in cost btw) and made it possible to switch through the 5 textures using VE Framework.

Was also thinking about adding some animations- like a ball mote or fleck jumping around when the field is used - nothing too fancy, just some movement. But I'm still unsure which framework would be possible to use for that, since I'm not really in a position to write the necessary code myself.

i'd love for a massive mod overhaul to recreation types and minigames in general, also the idea of putting soccer matches where i have scythers and ghouls vs impids is incredibly amusing

I would put this up with VE's contributions for mod of the year. Sometimes its small mods like this that can make a playthrough. Also I love this idea below and am looking forward to seeing where it goes.

That would be so fun! Just pausing the rest of rimworld to watch the points go up for each side until the time runs out and one side wins would be really fun. Could be entirely random or have a increased chance of success based on pawn move speed or something, but I like the idea of there always being a decent chance of failure so you still have fun watching.

My current thinking is a Ritual where you can play between your own pawns for a general mood buff and maybe a silver reward (broadcast rights ? :D ) then another one where you can pick a faction to play against for a potential increase or decrease in reputation

Wondering how people feel about potential downsides, I'm hoping I can figure a way to track goals scored and then add in cards and if a player gets booked they feel bad about it for a few days, if they score feel good etc., but just want to get the ritual working first !

This soccer field gives me all sorts of horrible ideas. Like having other fields (baseball diamond, American Football field, basketball court, rugby field, etc), and maybe events where your pawns play against other settlements. Have it affect relations too.

Honestly, it might be fitting to give points to both melee and ranged, given the bit of aim work going into kicking the ball into the goal, I'd imagine you could at least pick up a bit on the nature of spin and gravity on trajectory.

A lot of mods use "melee" skill as general fitness trait. I.E. the human power generator trains melee, gym stuff trains melee. It would make sense for me that soccer trains both melee and shooting a little bit, both fitness and coordination.

Consider making football games a random event, like a party, or an Ideology gathering.

It doesn't no, instead there's a small chance for a pawn to gain the Jogger trait, I couldn't decide what skill it would train as there's no generic "fitness" skill in Rimworld so went with that instead.

This is a brilliant mod!

I just found another mod the other day called RazzleDazzle. It's a mod that allows you to create plays and comedy acts and have live shows on stage for your pawns to watch. When you first start setting up a play, your pawn needs to practice on stage for some time before the actual play. You may want to do something similar with this mod. Where the pawn practices (which is already in there) and then after so much "practice" has been collected among various pawns a match could be started. I could even see something like this be a nice addition to the Hospitality series of mods where guests could become spectators.
