No idicator. You need to stay inside building or finding cover spots to avoid getting struck by lightnings. The lightning effect only appears for 0.1 sec when it occurs close to you, you may not see it directly because you're stumbling but you can clearly see when it strikes at other survivors

Okay, but is there any visual indicator that lightning has struck nearby? It feels more like a poltergeist in my game because I have only spotted the lightning that happens far away.

lightnings have chance to strike near the survivors. that stumble happens when lightning struck nearby. lightning damages those objects around its struck point with fire element.

I'm not sure this is working correctly. I can see the lightning strikes in the distance. However, randomly, I may get set on fire, stumble backwards, and propane and gas tanks randomly explode for no reason. Is that this mod doing that? Is the lightning invisible when it hits nearby? If that's what's happening, that kind of defeats the purpose.

@Everice Something's not right. Despite my efforts at installing this mod on me laptop, even though I resubscribed and restarted my computer several times, the "hrlightning" file refuses to show up in the ems folder for of the Left4Dead2 game directory. I don't understand

you can ise other text editor other than windows notepad.
i recomment to use notepad++ to open it. if you open with notepad++ you will see null/nil at the bottom, delete it then save. you should be able to open it in windows notepad

@Everice When I opened up the modsetting txt file to enable the lightning strikes, all I found was "档灡整彲‱‽റ挊慨瑰牥㉟㴠ㄠ਍档灡整彲″‽റ挊慨瑰牥㑟㴠ㄠ਍档灡整彲‵‽റ洊摯敟慮汢⁥‽റ稊江杩瑨楮杮慟敯㴠㈠〰਍彺楬桧湴湩彧慤慭敧㴠㈠ര稊江杩瑨楮杮晟敲畱湥祣㴠ㄠ਍彺楬桧湴湩彧瑳浵汢⁥‽1". I can't read this. And despite my best efforts, I couldn't get it translated through some of me other apps. What am I supposed to do to enable it on chapters 3 and 4?

That's a great update, I'll disable it in chapter 2 but it's good in any other chapter.

i've updated the mod to add mod setting. you can turn off lightning strikes in chapter 1 and 2 if you don't want lightning strikes in chap 1 and 2 or 3 4 5

Amazing mod, but there are lightning strikes already in chapter 1 and 2, which doesn't make sense. Also it would be nice to have an actual explosion on the strike spot, instead of just the ambient sound + ignite.

Makes sense why they burn so often when I'm near them; do you plan on making it so it avoids striking on Witches? You obviously don't have to, it's just so this mod (which is supposed to make the game harder) doesn't get rid of something hard specific to a map (the amount of witches) so often. It's sort of helpful.

This is a great idea and I love using this mod as it makes Hard Rain a bit more interesting, but the execution is a bit poor; it seems to target Witches a bit too much, rendering them useless. Is there a way to avoid that?

Yeah, make it in No Mercy like it is in Hard Rain, where it happens randomly and multiple times per chapter. Just give it some thought.

For No Mercy, u can put the lightning strike sound in the interior stages and in the open areas the lightning strike for example
And about the lightning particle, in that case dont worry if u cannot change it

the lightning particle has millisecond of lifespand it's around 0.1-0.2 second. i cannot change it through vscript.

for no mercy, most time players are inside building. only in finale chapter where player exposed to the open area. that's why i don't make it for no mercy. But since a few people have asked about this, I may consider making it into No Mercy.

Someone should make a slightly flooded No Mercy with it basically having the Hard Rain blinding rain effect with these lightning strikes and call it Drowned Mercy or something

It would be interesting if this effect were to be in No Mercy, considering it has rain, thunder, and lightning. Not as stormy as Hard Rain, but still.

This mod is a fantastic idea! But is there anyway to have it not appear in chapters 1 and 2? It doesn't really make sense for there be lightning when the storm hasn't full arrived yet

thank you for dynamic damage idea. i think leave it like this is better. as it just adding small environment damage to the game.
this mod is just small improvement on hard rain map i don't aim to add in other maps, including those custom maps. To get the rain weather i think there are two entities, iirc it's logic_relay, func_precipitation

Just some random ideas. I wonder if you're interested in adding different amount of damage based on difficulty too. For example:
Easy/ Normal = 1-15 damage
Advanced = 15-25 damage
Expert = 25-50 damage
This way, people will be more cautious of lightning on higher difficulty levels. You can also make a cfg file to turn on/off the feature of adjusting damage based on difficulty.

Oh, & I wonder if the weather can be detected via vscripts or not. If it can, probably you can also apply it on custom campaigns, so, as long as there's storm on custom campaigns, lightning can show up.

Sorry unsubscribed, the thunder is loud already in chapter 1, it also causes almost continuous small hordes every time there is thunder which really makes me angry, I don't want continuous hordes. the lightning strike should only start from ch3 when the storm actually arrives

idk what are you two trying to achieve here. i've checked the script both in game and files. the mod you're referred to doesn't get any conflicted and it doesn't have the same script file. that mod just has finale of each campaign file. this mod doesn't even use DirectorOptions table
