The biggest truth nuke we got outta the SIGGRAPH release was the fact that City 17 was more yellow and beige than beyta green. However, beyta green still has its place as a good visual choice for that setting

At long last, the SIGGRAPH 2000 demo has finally been released! It's funny comparing this to the demo. It's good to finally have an accurate look at what the real City 17 was like back then.

@Sgt Stacker, much appreciated! I deliberately kept it on the smaller side so I could really flesh out the brush designs with the buildings while keeping the lighting as sharp as possible. The engine was already screaming with just this size alone!

Wow, this might be the best take on that particular look for C17 I've ever seen, it emulates the style seen in the city_test maps perfectly! I'd kill to see an extended version of this

let me say u did a fantastic job capturing the 2001 gold source remnant beta dark and gritty feeling this genuinley feels like a valve made map form the beta do you have any other plans to do more beta maps?

I did. Some aspects I took from Valve's early City 17 maps, but it was all constructed myself.

Sorry for the lengthy delay. A small update has been rolled out while I work on other projects.

after seeing all the betas, I have reached new appreciation for your map dude, it's every iconic cut C-17 area stitched together in a way that feels so natural. This is like a time capsule of the older mapping styles (used by valve and ironically the fandom a few years later when Gmod mapping was a relatively niche thing) when we'd heavily use the brush tool to create jaw dropping scenery, and though there isn't much to drop your jaw at here, the optimization is what makes my brain explode. This truly is, a map that recaptures the time back when we'd all steal tv's and run rampant in the unfinished blocky streets during source's early infancy, and a free tv to you, for creating this map my man!

@Babs_23, that's a little harder to do, based on how I already have the map laid out. I have that other update coming soon, but it takes half a day to compile this thing.

could you maybe add interiors for people to put props in, y'know, to make it more like housing?

that has to be the best reason ever to put that in, it's like hl1 battle maps with useless buttons that activate nothing whatsoever.. ironically also the cremator traverses the urban area like shit, so I put him on the bridge, he's in time out
