Thanks. I've been in hospital for 3 months but I'll soon be back at the modding coal-face. And I've been given a couple of pointers on how to do the wicket gate. hopefully, it won't take too long.

Could you please make a "sally port" in this style?

It should be tall enough that a mounted rider can get through, but should only be a little wider than a standard doorway. Sally ports were usually hidden in some way, either behind bushes or coming out to a secret pathway out of the castle.

These existed as much to allow the cavalry within the castle to "sally forth" and mount a surprise attack on the besieging army as to allow the master of the house and his family a route of escape should the castle fall to the enemy!
