I don't think it was as it wasn't limited to this weapon my game only crashed after picking up more than 1 melee weapon on swap fever (or whatever it's name was) as when i started hard rain there wasn't a problem

could also be on the viewmodel since you don't get to see the other side of the blade on any of the animations.
