Hmm well I've checked on different PCs and it works on both l4d 1 and 2 maps for me. I'm not sure why it wouldn't work for you as it's just a simple model/sound swap. Only thing i can think of is it's conflicting with some other addon you have installed. You should check that in the main menu in the Addons menu.
