Why does Ironman mode in many games exist? If it forces the player to only one save file, why can't the player just choose to not save-scum?

Also in multiplayer with AIs you can't rely on some "gentleman's agreement" that your human opponent will not build forts as well.

wait I dont understand this mod. If only the player can build Forts, then they just need to choose to NOT build them. Why need a mod?
