You can always have your friend change ownership of thier ship to you whilst using the beam.
The module was really only designed for use in the Factory Fleet. It just happens to work standalone as well and I wanted to keep the "new equipment" and "new ship designs" mods split.
Admittedly I haven't tested that yet, because I'm working on something else. But in most cases when the game updates (as it's still in early-access active development) it's easier to just re-enable your mods and see if any break.
Could possibly do some docking/locking shenanigans to make them always face each other ...
and thus you've overcome the 1per ship rule, and the 'requires beam from another ship to power/activate'
.... I mean that is way OP and past the design scope ...
.. but you can do what you want ;)
im not to particular on having to pay to get that bonus tho if theres a reblanece or standalone thats around think thatd be more for me
