The mod needs to be extracted by AoE.
This takes place while the intro plays up to the start of the chess video.
If it's not fully extracted til then,you have to restart and let the intro play another time.

This problem occurs every time you have much mod data to be applied/extracted.

Another reason can be your mod count. With around 30 active mods AoE stops extracting new ones. In this case unsub from some maps, they'll still be there but you have free slots for more mods again.

Safest way to get soundtracks to work is to extract them manually. The mods archive (present in your AoE\mods folder after first game start after downloading) is an extensionless zip archive, just extract it to your AoE folder.
