Ironically enough, I had assumed the burned stumps were removed intentionally, but if the feature was added back in a subsequent update I guess that means it was an oversight of some sort. In any case, this is useful for me since I likely won't be ditching 1.4 for some time still. Too many mods I'd have to leave behind.
