I think iv'e figured it out. What you share as an update needs to have the same name as whatever the original name of the item was, way back when you uploaded it for the first time to the workshop. i could update an old item that I knew i never changed the name of, so that must be it. I probably misspelled the name of the original item so i have to guess what it was to update it. Thanks for your help, though!

It happens sometimes but I usually just end up deleting the new creation and trying to update it again.

sorry, bad communication on my end. I've tried updating it that way already. it just shared a second item with the same name instead of updating the old one. it could have something to do with the original being 8 months old?
