There are keyboard layout where each key is associated to one kana, so not necessarily.

However, I don't think people nowadays use that layout much anymore, from what I can see (deduced from many mistyped 'floating commments' on niconico douga lol), most people uses IME. Therefore, to get '源平合戦', one can type 'gen'peikassen' to get it. But that being said, that is one of many options to get that word.

if you want to search Gempei in Japanese, you have to type gennpei to get it. Therefore, genpei

> seeing people bitch about 'genpei' vs 'gempei'

This is why roumaji is awful.

治承・寿永の乱 (the era name of the emperor(s) that are on the throne) is the actual term, however no one in the western world calls it that.

Is this a map that needs to be set to in multiplayer customs battles? Or does this also have a chance to appear in multiplayer campaign mode?

People being douchebags here. Gempei is simply a romanisation, Genpei is the correct term. I don't get what the problem is.

Westerners usually describe the Orient in their way but not follow the history. Maybe they think understanding some information in Chinese or Janpanese is difficult lol. Just a joke please don't mind it.
智障 4 Jun, 2014 @ 3:18pm
I think Gempei is a western way, and Genpei should be the formal one. Thank you.

What kind of people play this game? Like young historians?
xSubo 3 Jun, 2014 @ 11:09am
ah its not the standard reference outside of japan, took a history of japan and samurai at graduate lvl and the guys book was never used. so quit leaning on it like its some kind of proof
COMMANDER HANFEI  [author] 3 Jun, 2014 @ 9:23am
In japan its written in Japanese, not Genpei or Gempei, its the westerners problem
marLeo 3 Jun, 2014 @ 9:21am
"The name "Genpei" (pronounced and sometimes romanised as Gempei)" from Wikipedia.

As I said; even George Sansom uses the term Gempei in his work 'A history of Japan' which is the standard reference about Japanese history outside of Japan. This might be the cause that the term Gempei is more commonly known in western countries and that Genpei is common in Japan.

合戦 GASSEN (Battle)
Im Japanese by the way...

fyi "The Tales of the Heike" chronicles the 'Genpei War'; havent seen the word Gempei ever; not even in the literary works written in the 1200's that cover that time period.
xSubo 3 Jun, 2014 @ 6:45am
could just wrap all the maps from this conflict under the bundle "The Tales of the Heike"
marLeo 3 Jun, 2014 @ 5:16am
Both are correct but Gempei is the more common term. Even George Sansom uses it in his standard reference 'A history of Japan'.
MantadeAhsoka 2 Jun, 2014 @ 12:54am
Author is correct, if you want to go into real details Activision made the mistake.
COMMANDER HANFEI  [author] 31 May, 2014 @ 9:54am
genpei is correct. Gen symbolises the Minamoto cloan, Pei symbolises the Taira clan. So it should be Gen-Pei Wars.
