I also made this map like 8 years ago in high school, but I remember the hammer editor being a pain in the ass to work with . The combine high walls always had gaps in them when I tried to put multiple side by side so chain link fence was easier

Game level design decision so the player is able to see the surrounding terrain and spot incoming antlions easier. Using the combine high wall all around blocks vision and messed with the antlions path finding against the ai nodes. Compromised by having some combine high walls the player can use as a vantage point

In source theres no way to have an infinite amount spawn but you can set it to some ridiculous number like 99999. So int heory basically infinite
