Sounds like a good idea, I often use parachutes just to save that little bit of delta V plus i have a base so i could refuel it, cheers!

@Moss I think the best way to make it work on Duna is to add a couple more parachutes to the top. I was experimenting with an expendable cargo pod with parachutes and sepratrons (to produce some "grand slam" seismometer data), but haven't come up with a good design.

Just make sure that once your parachute fully deploy... keep your Airbrake's are fully extended and put your engine at max throttle until it touches the ground otherwise it would crash

i just used my trusty add on hyper edit to get it into orbit so i can de-orbit it

I just tested it for Kerbin re-entry and it works and it survives the heat of re-entry
