hardest difficulty: HELL
-non-headshots do no damage
-all infected have over 1000 health
-the tank has 40000 hp instead of 8000
-every infected one shots the player
-temp health always, and can never go above 50
-friendly fire kills you and the target instantly
-always moving at the speed of a snail
-always black and white, but it's tinted red
-infecteds move as fast as the witch
-special infected limit is 8
-endless hordes
-zombies can break saferoom door
-healing item spawns reduced to 0.1
-weapon damage is reduced by 50%
-touching the ground damages you
-take random damage
-spitter goo puddles are increased by 200%
-the tank is big
-the tank does 100% more damage and is 50% faster
-the tank uses the meatwall model
-witches are startled instantly
-recoil is increased by 100%
-scopes are disabled
-only allowed to have 5 ammo at all times
-ammo does not spawn
-only pistols

I enjoyed this difficulty. I really love the feeling of incoming death and always black and white gives it a creepy atmosphere.
Even if I like it, I have never beat a single map chapter xd.

Iron Man in expert still the worst because if you're dead, I think you will be back on lobby.

You can play with friends too but they will need the addon too. And you need to host locally.

is insurmountable solo only? can you not play with friends?

Correction: I played that before buffing insurmountable. Its harder now (there are more specials). However it should still be possible to solo. But my goal is to nerf insurmountable just a little bit in the next update.

I planned to rebalance cataclysmic-insurmountable (or rather i already did. i have to playtest it now and then publish the update), because pandemonium is redundant right now. However in the state that is online right now, it is probably even possible to beat some campaigns on insurmountable realism solo. It is just ridiculously difficult. I managed to beat the 1st chapter on dead air and went far enough into the 2nd chapter to show that it can be done. Chapter 4 may require some good bhop or very good melee skills, but i do not think that it is impossible.

Bhop definitely helps in some situations. Aswell as some other speedrun tricks. I did not intend it to be beaten tool assisted, but otherwise cheesing with common boosts or stuff like that is totally fine. It is not supposed to just be about aim or just about quick reactions, but overall skill, experience and knowledge. Good teams should be able to beat fiendish without cheese and too much trouble. However insurmountable is definitely also about problem solving. A big part does not lie within actually shooting stuff but about figuring out how to make it work.Just like lifting a heavy weight turns from a feat of strength to a feat of engineering at some point.

Well, insurmountable is a synonym for impossible. So i guess it makes sense. xD

Yeah nobody beat this. Even with bhopping to mitigate the 1hp speed you are not fast enough to get to key points. 1hp would be fine if you modfied the base speed to 40hp. I do no damage runs all the time when I carry friends on Expert Realism. I find this and even after 42 tries cannot finish the easiest campaign, No Mercy. 9th Diff faces a different problem. A character can take 3 sec of being on fire and one point blank headshot using pump shotgun and it still manages to live.

Insanely fun to play with. It's fun to screw around and see how long I can last. Thanks for making these! How about an eleventh-- nah I'm joking, unless if you happen to have another adjective past "Insurmountable" difficulty.

Blame Valve. If you have a healing item, hold it and they will stop.

Bots will block your movement because they want to heal you.
This can be annoying.

Oops sorry did not notice. But no. Mainly because i do not see a point in doing so. The difficulty here comes from the combination of commons and specials. So just having specials would not gain a big increase in difficulty this way. So in order to get anything out of it, it would require a completely new type of mutation. However if you are really interested in it, there are two options. Either play solo (kill or kick the bots), or make your own mutation. That is not difficulty and feel free to use any parts of this addon. You can open it with gcfscape and look at the content.
