Yeah but it can be problematic and messy sometimes. I rig some of them with mixamo to avoid doing weight painting for an hour then I just position the model and apply the armature modifier. then I rename all the vertex groups to the valve vertex groups and parent the model to skeleton with empty groups.

i use mixamo, kind of cheating but it works nicely :)
