The screenshots were made in local coop mode in 2014. I've never played VS mode. If Valve made it so addons don't work in VS mode, then that's just how it is now. Play coop or run your own VS mode server.

The black bars can be fixed, it has something to do with a screen ratio, doesn't have the bars on the lowest one. But of course it comes with a price lol.
