Hello everyone, just put up a dev diary going over the new content coming with the WIP Hangzhou Flavor Pack! See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CrusaderKings/comments/1olyitm/rice_mod_dev_diary_58_hangzhou_flavor_pack_and/

Another dev diary will be up for the Aslian Flavor Pack hopefully in a week or so.

@Mikhail: Hopefully the dev diary will answer some of your question :)

@Odoxon It will likely cause issues/CTDs. I put up a beta version for RICE 1.18.0 which is stable(r), but since it's still buggy/incomplete, it's not recommended for serious playthroughs and will not be compatible with the eventual official release of RICE 1.18.0. If you're fine with messing around with some jank/bugs, see the GitHub link at the top of the description for info on how to get the beta.

Can you still use the mod with the current version of the game or will it cause issues?

What yo will add in the 1.18 update?
cybrxkhan  [autor] cu 11 ore în urmă
Hello all, as I mentioned previously, work is still ongoing to update RICE to 1.18. If you're interested, I have an open beta up on GitHub (see link in description), but it is buggy and not intended for serious playthroughs - if you use that, please read the instructions.

For those wondering what content I'll do in the future, I intend to do content for other places in Asia in the long run, including Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Southeast Asia, etc., but no guarantees what and when.

@Mechero It will include most of the old content, alongside new content. A few things will be removed (mainly some of Guiyi content since it intersects with PI's new China stuff), to make it easier to update to AUH.

@Tilarium Thanks for your tireless service o7 I've added a picture to the top saying the mod isn't up to date in clear bold words so hopefully that'll get the message across to most folks lol
Mechero cu 11 ore în urmă
For 1.18 do you plan to release it with the current mod content or do you plan to add new things before releasing the update?

Thanks all for your eagerness and understandnig!

For those asking about a timeframe, I don't want to make any guarantees, but best case scenario is in a week, but more realistically I expect maybe midlate Nov. The current WIP beta build is stable(ish) but there's still a lot I have to polish and some bugs to iron out, given how big AUH is so I don't want to put it out with any serious problems.

@von_das Yes, Hangzhou as in the capital city of the Southern Song :)

@Wulfhund I'm also disappointed in SEA, and will definitely adjust the culture setup even if it's a little outside what my normal scope would be, as I want to lay a good foundation for future RICE content in SEA. I'll leave more balkanized setups to mods like Rajas of Asia, but even as an anti-granularist I think further tweaks can be done, so I hope to have a "what vanilla could be" setup so to speak :)

Amazing mod but the mod breaks the game right now. Could you please update to 1.18?

Gracias por increible Mod, CK3 se siente vacio sin el, toma tu tiempo para actualizarlo.

Yeah Korea feels very empty right now, really hoping RICE adds some content there.
Kangarus 31 oct. la 23:29
Was always a favourite mod of mine; looking forward to seeing how you expand upon the new content introduced by 1.18. Some extra content on Korea and South-East Asia would be awesome; fleshing out some of the cultures such as the Makassar and Filipino cultures.
Tismont 31 oct. la 22:29
Hi, do you plan in next update expansion of korean region? i Was quite disappointed that there is so little content for Korea even though i expected that.
Chekhov 31 oct. la 17:30
@cybrxkhan

It creates a strange feeling of emptiness when you happen to move your camera over them or remember they exist - I think it'd have been better to leave them out, but Paradox is evidently set on expanding scope as wide as possible without giving it any meaning. I guess they expect you & other modders to fix it.
Silent Heaven 31 oct. la 14:49
cybrxkhan excited to see what you have in store for SEA content now that the map is fully open
Unqelos D'Orayta 31 oct. la 13:58
Also the Khmer, it is so lacking, it is sad.

Are you guys going to give flavor to Nanzhao and Dali in the future? It is so often overlooked and neglected!

update please!
cybrxkhan  [autor] 30 oct. la 22:53
@Mikhail The current version of RICE on Steam may have issues since it's not up to date with the latest DLC/version right now.

@Khazus Thanks! I also find the SEA setup disappointing. I was anticipating it'd have less content than China/Japan, so in a way that doesn't bother me much, but I do find it disappointing that there are various details off, like the entire Austronesian language blob for all the Austronesian cultures (except Chamic for some reason) which as you probably know is like having an Indo-European or Afro-Asiatic language. While it'll take some time before RICE fills out the area with more content in the future, I hope to lay a decent foundation for SEA with the update to AUH.
𝐌𝐢𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥 30 oct. la 14:48
It Crash the game no?
Khazus 30 oct. la 3:56
looking forward to SEA content (all I can think of is, "how will RICE or CE make this DLC better"), as someone who is from Philippines, I am quite disappointed with how little they tried with the Austronesians. Yes there is little hisorical record, but it seems like the devs just put Indochina costume on southeast asian portraits, didnt even reskin holding interiors for adventurers, warriors in SEA wear some kind of Persian armor instead of...not having armor, as they were not the type to steel wear armor, let alone a breastplate. So much to rant about lol.

you should read the description of the mod before you comment
Grimsvar 29 oct. la 16:11
Really looking forward to the update coming soon. Thank you for all your hard work. :)
Kadoan 29 oct. la 14:17
I hope you do not mistake my sheer excitement to play the mod on again for rudeness but is there a timeframe for updating it to 1.18?
I am sure its quite a bit of work but I have to say that I do not really want to start playing without the luxury of rice :'D
Wulfhund 29 oct. la 11:54
Thanks so much for the aslian pack. I am dissappointed with Paradox's version of SE Asia so far... many ethnicities seem to be lumped together (but they still had room for Acehnese even though the rest of Sumatra is Malay? Lol)

Also another big question mark is why are the Papuans tagged to Austronesian culture?

Some real head scratchers. Glad you are around to fix this stuff.
Finarfin 29 oct. la 8:11
Not to mention that Saladim was pasting that same sentence all over mods.

@SalahadDin reading wasn’t your best subject in school, was it?

cybrxkhan [author] 18 hours ago
Heads up to everyone, an official update to 1.18/AUH will not be out until later in November. It will also include two flavor packs for Hangzhou and the Aslian peoples.

However, an open beta is currently available on GitHub (please see GitHub link above). I do not advise playing the beta unless you’re a veteran mod user/modder who can read instructions, understand troubleshooting support won't be provided, and are aware the build has bugs/issues, including but not limited to missing text, unfinished content, incomplete AUH integration, and some game concepts removed (as they were causing rare CTDs - possibly a vanilla bug, I am currently investigating it). The beta should not be used for serious playthroughs.
SalahadDin 29 oct. la 6:47
I love this mod so much. Could the you update it to version 1.8?
von_das 29 oct. la 5:03
Looking forward to it! Hangzhou as in the city?
cybrxkhan  [autor] 28 oct. la 20:21
@Obsidious No problem! As mentioned below, the beta isn't really in a finished state (though it's semi-stable) so it's not recommended for a serious playthrough and just there for veteran modders/mod users to dick around in. :)
Obsidious 28 oct. la 19:38
Thanks for the response! I realise I worded that a little oddly; that's what I meant, yeah, whether or not it would work on the wrong version or cause issues. I might check out that beta...
cybrxkhan  [autor] 28 oct. la 18:21
@Obsidious The non-beta version is still for 1.17, and will not work on 1.18 (well, you might be able to load into 1.18 technically, but it'll be very unstable and a lot of stuff won't work properly).

Anyhow was able to update VIET and get a RICE beta ready thanks to Paradox who were kind enough to give me early access :)
Obsidious 28 oct. la 13:55
To clarify, will the mod's current version (non-beta) work for 1.18, or will it break on the current game version until the mod itself updates?

Also, how did you get the VIET update out so fast?? Impressive! Thanks for the update!

@Noctemz Yeah, a couple people have already reported that and I'll fix it in the next update. It wasn't WAD so probably just an oversight on my part lol
Noctemz 25 oct. la 15:52
Heya! Not sure if anyone else has commented this but would you able to in a future update make it so that the Empire of the Nile decision is only visible if you have land in the region? Feels weird that I'm playing the HRE and i've got that decision visible
Wulfhund 25 oct. la 7:49
Thanks so much, the history of the spice routes are so fascinating..
The archeology on the Borobudur ship as well as historical sources have shown how capable people in the region were (dare i say equal or even more impressive than the Vikings).

Information suppressed by what is essentially colonial bias and the influence of modern Sino and Indian supremicists in the information sphere.
cybrxkhan  [autor] 24 oct. la 17:26
@Wulfhund My understanding is the devs are planning to do some trade related stuff in the near future (though no concrete promises when or how so), so I'll be waiting for that until I do anything that would substantially touch on maritime trade, though I do think it's disappointing we won't get much maritime Silk Road representation in AUH. I've had ideas to do an off-map East African struggle vaguely akin to the Greenland one for places like the Swahili city-states and Madagascar for years, actually, but also waiting to see what we get after AUH for trade first.
Wulfhund 24 oct. la 11:04
Is there a plan for greater Nusantara yet? Just wondering because a struggle or situation for control/development of the region's trade seems to be as important if not more so than the silk road with the seaborne route.

Also a struggle for colonization of Madagascar similar to the North Sea struggle you had created could be interesting.
cybrxkhan  [autor] 22 oct. la 21:24
@AchillesMV They're compatible with each other, since I'm the creator of both and they have two different niches so no overlap you need to worry about.
AchillesMV 22 oct. la 0:06
Is this and VIET compatible with Ironman and achievement? Thanks for answer.
cybrxkhan  [autor] 19 oct. la 21:06
@BlueberryJush No DLCs are required. Some of the content will interact with DLCs, but I've tried to ensure where possible that if you don't have the DLCs the content will still work. There's probably a few things in RICE that do require DLC but it should be very few.
