Hey, man, I love the concept behind the mod, but could you by any chance make it to where it as well allow religions with the Christian Syncretism tenet to use it as well? I love Hellenic and I was going to add Christian Syncretism as a tenet specifically for the Hagia Sophia, however the scripting does not allow for it. T'ankies and best regards! :cattiva:

This mod is perfect for me because I love the Byzantine Empire and Catholicism, and now I can play as a Catholic Byzantium with Hagia Sophia still functioning!

The mod is still working, you just need to open the mod folder and edit the descripter.mod

Change this line:

supported_version="1.8.*"

to:

supported_version="1.10.*"


or the current game version but at the moment its 1.10 :)

@Morven When you get a chance to look at this, just so you know, its currently preventing you from upgrading Canterbury Cathedral. Only shows the cathedral as having a single construction phase.

Hey Morven, could you check if the Hagia Sophia bonuses are being applied?

I noticed they weren't for me as a Catholic, so I tried on a new game with just the mod, and as Basileus Basileios in 867 (so even as Orthodox) I wasn't getting for example the extra Learning, Intrigue or Knight Effectiveness.

I tried a different game with Garcia in Galicia 1066 and building the Cathedral in Santiago I correctly got the bonuses. I checked the Basileus and he wasn't getting his from the Hagia.

Update for v1.7. New vanilla AI modifier so the special buildings won't be built by the AI until they've constructed buildings in all their normal slots included, let me know if AI aren't building the cathedrals.

Changed the building character modifiers to affect the county holder, rather than the barony holder. This means you as county holder will get the special benefits conferred by the building as seen in the tooltip, not the priest temple-holder as in vanilla.

I'm an Orthodox Christian and it seemed really really odd to me that Catholicism and Orthodoxy couldn't use each other's holy sites.
I guess it's a balance thing, but still, there's an Orthodox monastery in Scotland today dedicated to venerating the Celtic saints, there's no reason the Orthodox wouldn't consider western European holy sites to be holy.
Anyway, thanks again for this mod, I really appreciate it.

New big holy sites mod:
Dynamic Holy Sites - Conquer, Sanctify, Exile

Sanctify and activate every holy site for every faith. Deactivate and exile every other faith from every holy site. Make holy sites a dynamic mechanic that evolves with the gameworld. As holy sites change rulers and faiths, they become places of veneration to new faiths, and alienated from their old controllers. Paint the map in your faith's colour and add every holy site to your collection.

Here you go mate. In Dynamic Holy Sites every holy site can build a grand religious building (cathedral, mosque, temple etc.) as a regular building within the holy site province. Because every holy site can become a holy site for every faith most special buildings should be enabled even with the vanilla buildings file once you sanctify the site and make it a holy site of your faith.

I'm working on a big holy sites mod that should solve the issue. In the meantime if you search the workshop a few other people have made building mods to that effect, not sure if they've been kept up to date or were parsimonious in what building keys they overwrote.

It should work with nearly all building mods. CK3 can overwrite by key, the only keys this mod overwrites are the cathedral ones. It won't interact with other building keys in vanilla, or other vanilla keys that a mod may change, or keys for new buildings that a mod adds.

I don't think it would easier or better, buildings don't really work that way. They have added some new effects since this mod was written around buildings, but the special building slots are still set up on_game_start, not a decision you take in game during play, and whether you can build or enable the special building itself within those slots is determined by the buildings entry in the buildings.txt that is modded here.

You could perhaps do a building mod with a larger scope, I think the new effects make that possible (they couldn't when I wrote this, and I haven't looked closely at revisiting it), but for a simple mod that allows Catholics to hold mass at the Hagia Sophia, all that's needed was to edit the is_enabled block in the buildings.txt file.

Only the entries that are modded are included in the mod, it doesn't overwrite any other vanilla buildings that others may like to mod and can be used with them.

Instead of overwriting everything, have you considered simply duplicating the Decision for non-Vanilla rendition builders of the Hagia Sophia? That way, compatibility is maximized!

Someone asked about that last year but didn't post a follow up reply, the short answer is I'm not sure. The trigger in the mod is that the faith be a "christianity_religion" as listed in "common\religion\religions\00_christianity.txt". I'm not sure what religion group custom religions get, I think they inherit the family of the parent religion so that a custom Christian religion would still be a "christianity_religion", but I don't know. Let me know what happens.

Vanilla Hagia Sophia still requires that it be a holy site of the faith, so no Catholic mass in Constantinople. See line 2080 of "\common\buildings\00_special_buildings.txt" in vanilla:
barony = { is_holy_site_of = scope:holder.faith }

The other two Cathedrals have been moved to OR blocks, that you either be a Christian faith or it is holy site of the faith.

As far as I can see, the cathedrals can be used by any christian in 1.5. (Tested with Canterbury and Notre Dame)
My guess is that this mod is no longer needed. Can anyone confirm?
