Where you have a preference for modded apparel/armour to be similarly compatible with CAS then I would suggest speaking to the author of the mod in the hope that they can be enthused to patch their material.
On the main CAS steam page their is a link to a reference PDF that provides some detail about how this is done with examples. And CAS does use preset values with the use of apparel tags to minimise/remove the amount of patch work needed to achieve this.
