To strike a balance between invincibility and difficulty.

Think about it, the same could be asked for the player as well - why do you not set your character to have max health (so you don't have to bother about reloading when you die).

Very useful - as much as its more immersive not to have the notification, my playing time is limited, so I don't want to be wasting half an hour working out what happend to poor old dobin :)
