Friend attacked rolled a 4 on the first roll, he then rolled a 1 for the effect roll, since he failed the 3+ roll would that mean he takes the damage from the fight or can he just keep rolling until he gets the 3+ 4+ and 5+ all in a row without any drawbacks. I think he was thinking damage is prevented to both player and monster while I was thinking just the damage to the monster is prevented. I viewed it as needing to roll a 2+ then 3+ then 4+ and lastly 5+ all in a row and if any of those failed you would take damage. He viewed it as the affect being seprate from the attack roll I think.
