And yes, certain aspects of this game where better before I started playing.
1/2 I have been playing tf2 for 7 years now and to be honest no, I don't remember a time when the characters looked like they had an interesting personality.
I remember when there were far less cosmetics, and yeah the more they add the more ones there are going to be that you won't like personally, but acting as if tf2 at some point lost all character is pretty weird. If a cosmetic looks bad to me I don't wear it, and very few cosmetics are so widespread that you’re likely to see many other players wearing them either. It's all optional personalisation.
And yeah lime paint is pretty ugly imo, but there have been obnoxiously painted items for a very long time. I mean your mercenary is from 2015, so unless you are commenting on an alt account, are you saying the game was better before you had played it? I mean the war pig is one of the hats I think of for obnoxious lime paint and that came out 6 years ago. Back in 2009 you could have a lime cowoby hat.

Remember the times when the characters actually looked like they had an interesting personality, and were not buried beneath a mountain of lime-painted ski masks?
The bandana hat is an atrocity to humanity, btw.
And maceror, if you state that something is “edgy as f*ck” then immediately say you love it, there is something wrong with you.
The engineer can already have like 4 cowboy hats, two sombreros, a bandanna, and a bunch of other stuff.
I don't really think this is going to be the thing that "jars the characters appearance" I mean you can literally have a bannana for a head
