can you do it the other way round so we spare ourselves the uselesse buildup of fleets ...connect more places....

I was fighting a war down in Egypt yesterday and I realized that the Nile was impassable rather than being a major river. Turns out that the Nile is missing from the Better Straits adjacencies.csv. I missed it in my original Holy Fury update too. :steamfacepalm:

I've updated my copy and replaced the one I had uploaded to google drive.

Hey everyone, thanks for pestering me about updating it. I finally had a chance to get to it over the last few days. In particular, thanks to @eclipse454 for making it really easy to double check I hadn't screwed anything up too bad. Let me know if you have any trouble with the updated version.

I updated the mod for my own use with HF. Here is link to it. Just copy it to the folder that your original betterstraits.zip file is in.

All credit to abauer2. I just want to help out.

@TheMediCat Sorry about your teleportation. At least it's not a one-way ticket. I am currently in the midst of getting a paper published for my PhD, so I won't be able to work on this for the next couple weeks most likely. But, as soon as it's all done, it will be high on my priority list.
TheMediCat 23. mar. 2019 kl. 10:50
Will you spend time updating this to Holy Fury? =)

There are some straits in Saxony that allow you to ascend into the aethereal plane and back, teleporting past enemies by the river =3

@coeurdelion, Thanks for letting me know. I'll see if I can take a peak at it and try to correct that.
coeurdelion 18. dec. 2018 kl. 15:56
Since the last game update, when I play with this mod name-placement gets a little wonky. For example, rather than spreading the name "Austria" across the river that divides the duchy, "Austria" is just written on either side of the river. Similarly, the Duchy of the Isles has its name repeated over contiguous provinces rather spread out as a whole.

Not a deal-breaker, since I still like what this mod actually does (I love your using the English Channel as a baseline), but I thought you should know.

Thank you! I'm actually waiting for all the mods I play with to be updated so I don't know when I will be able to test yours x)
abauer2  [ophavsmand] 16. nov. 2018 kl. 7:47
@Phoenix, I haven't played in the last couple months so I'm not sure. If any of the relevant province id's changed then it wouldn't be, but that usually only happens when the province in question is redrawn. If you try, let me know. Regardless, I'll try to update it in the next couple weeks.

Please, let me know if you do try whether it works or not.

Compatible with v3.0?
abauer2  [ophavsmand] 4. nov. 2018 kl. 2:20
@James the Fair, I have looked at the Galloway - Isle of Man strait and I have decided to keep it as it is for now. The shortest over-water distance between the two is very close to the Dover-Calais distance. I may look at it again in the future, but not right now.
abauer2  [ophavsmand] 3. nov. 2018 kl. 10:52
@PlatinumGains, I don't want to add a strait from Dover to Calais, but if you are running a dark ages mod it should be pretty easy to add one yourself. Check out adjacencies.csv to see how they work and then figure out the province id's for the two provinces you want to connect and voila.
Jimbo 14. okt. 2018 kl. 7:35
I like this mod, but can you can rid of the connection between Galloway and the Isle of man please? as the gap between the two in real life is much wider than what is portrayed in the game, even wider than that of Dover and Calais.
PlatinumGains 8. okt. 2018 kl. 12:57
@abauer2 is there any way you could impliment a strait from Dover to Calais? I run a dark ages mod, and no one has any shipbuilding advances.
abauer2  [ophavsmand] 10. aug. 2018 kl. 5:42
@TheMediCat I am unfamiliar with the Suez Canal mod's implementation, but I expect we both modify adjacencies.csv. If you compare that file from the two mods (and maybe from vanilla as well) you should be able to figure it out. If you know how to use the command line, diff will make it really easy to see where there are differences. Otherwise, I suggest Notepad++ (which, if you're trying to get into CK2 modding is a must anyway) if you're on Windows.
TheMediCat 9. aug. 2018 kl. 19:56
Would this be compatible with the suez canal mod? Or more likely, is there a way for me to manually combine the two? kinda noob at ck2 modding but would appreciate the possibility ^.^

@Lord_Daemonar I would be incredibly surprised if it breaks existing savegames. However, I don't want to say 100% that it won't. I'd make a copy of your save file and try loading it just to be sure. Oh, and please let me know if you have any problems. Good luck
Lord_Daemonar 13. juni 2018 kl. 8:43
Will this mod break existing save games?
Citrusfruit 11. juni 2018 kl. 15:45
Found it! Thank you very much! I couldn't seem to find the IDs anywhere.
abauer2  [ophavsmand] 11. juni 2018 kl. 15:07
Check out this page: https://ck2.paradoxwikis.com/Provinces#List_of_counties
And you can search by the name of the sea province, as it appears in-game.
Citrusfruit 11. juni 2018 kl. 10:40
How would I find out that number? I knew the layout of the adjacencies, but I don't know how I could find the information for it.

From;To;Type;Through;-1;-1;-1;-1;Comment
abauer2  [ophavsmand] 11. juni 2018 kl. 2:07
@Kabburton, that should be the province number of the sea province through which the strait runs. So in this case, whatever Gulf of Venice is. That should do it for you.
Citrusfruit 10. juni 2018 kl. 16:36
So, for the connection that I want to do I would write 356;357sea;---;-1;-1;-1;-1;Venice-Trevicio
What would go in the spot with "---"?
Citrusfruit 10. juni 2018 kl. 15:40
@MaDGaR29 I'm sure when they did invade France they used boats, which you can do in-game. (Although it's a pain)
MaDGaR 10. juni 2018 kl. 13:13
@abauer2 will do,
abauer2  [ophavsmand] 10. juni 2018 kl. 7:01
@MaDGaR29 I am not going to add connecting Britain to the continent for the reasons stated above, but if you really want one, it would only require adding a single line to the adjacencies.csv file.
abauer2  [ophavsmand] 10. juni 2018 kl. 6:58
@Kabburton, I don't want to add one to Venice for the same reason it doesn't have one in vanilla, it would be so much more likely to get eaten really early and then no more Venice. Even though in reality it would definitely have one. This is where I wish CK2 had more naval options, like in EU4 you can blockade a strait with a navy to prevent an army from crossing.
MaDGaR 9. juni 2018 kl. 15:58
actually looking for a mod, to have a strait for the english channel...... britian invaded france how many times and your telling me it doenst need that right? HUM BUG!
abauer2  [ophavsmand] 15. maj 2018 kl. 21:23
Yeah, I know it's meant to be an abstraction of a military crossing the water somehow. The way I see it, if they are able to commandeer a bunch of fleets in Wales to sail to Ireland, surely they can also do so in France and sail to England. Historically, the English Channel has proven to be the best defense for England/Britain, so to be consistent, I removed straits longer than the Channel.
Corvus 15. maj 2018 kl. 17:49
I understand the logic behind the mod, but if I remember correctly, the devs explained crossings at those straights as basically the military commandeering the multiple fishing vessels that transitted through that area constantly, for what it's worth.
coeurdelion 15. maj 2018 kl. 9:06
I really like this. The new casus belli in Jade Dragon actually shifted the balance quite a bit, since conquest is much easier, so I think this actually might be a better system.
