hi there, i used to make mod compilations and paks here on steam. i recently started re-uploading and fixing my oldest mod pack. i was hoping i could have your permission to add your torchlight 2 full respec mod to my own . if not please message me back and i will change it . Thanks in advance

I don't know how this mod can delete characters to be honest, as it is using an in-game function to get the respec done. But yeah, not being able to respec your skills/stats is not something that should be present in an ARPG. Sorry for your loss

it deleted my save as a necromancer (synergies mod, I believe). so it's not much use now... I'll just start over with the right skills this time... I assume it works just fine with the stock characters, but perhaps not with mod characters... it's weird all the mods that respec stats, and the game has options to respec stats... but there's not a lot you can do beyond cheating to respec SKILLS. I feel like it's an oversight on the part of the original game creators... but I'm sure its because they want you to replay... Who wants to restart at level 3 though? Just let me fix it real quick and I'll be on my way, dang it!

Will this delete my character or mess up my game? Cause i have a level 53 berserker and i want to change what i put my skill points into. I dont want to mess up my game or anything like that.

Chthon figured out a way to respec stats from the Skill Respec NPC. Look up FREESPEC on the Runic forums Mod Showcase. It's ingenious how he did it, and really complicated.

@Dante, I never tested this mod with custom characters, but the mod uses an in-game; existing function to give you your points back. There may be a problem with the custom characters.

Nah, it's ok LarvaLounge :) Wish we could do more via the UI, unfortunately we cannot... Only thing I want is being able to affect STATs via the UI, but you cannot do it.

Timer was to avoid misclicking and stuff. It doesn't have a save state, and it can be cheated anyway. I just wanted to make it feel a bit more natural in the game, that's why it is there :)

Two things: That's a very clever way you figured out to charge gold for the Full Respec. I have been working on a Respec mod of my own to possibly include in ABYSM http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=446621607
I could not figure out any other way to charge gold, so currently it uses the same method. If I do include it in my mod I will give you full credit for the idea, and link to your mod. Would you mind that?

Also, I believe that the timer is not working correctly on your mod. Once I have respecced, it says 'Exhausted' indefinitely... until I quit and resume the game. It's my opinion that the timer is unnecessary, anyhow... but right now it also seems broken.

Got a bug. I'm level 13 with the kensei using the eastern pack. I hit the forget all button there and suddenly I have 377 skill points. I went back and unlearned some skills again and now it says if I forget all I'm going to receive over 700 skill points.

Were you using a mod before? If not, you may need to move your save to the modded save folder; Vanilla characters may not be visible at the beginning. Though, it has been a long while since I last played/modded this game, I may be wrong =/

I just added the mod, and whenI launch the game with the mod, it doesn't find my orgianl saved game. So I'm assuming it works if I start over but I want to respec a character I'm allready playing, what am i doing wrong?

I wish I could apply effects via UI elements. But no luck, I've been trying to get them working, but it is a guess game with a lot of unknowns. Maybe the answer is simple, but I haven't found one yet.

If I can find a way though, that'll pave the way to gold banking, stat respeccing, etc... etc...

I like the idea of this, since I think realism has nothing to do with why some games don't let you respec. After all, in the real world, in real life, we're constantly learning, unlearning, and retraining. If we don't ... things don't go so well.

It's the same in a game. If I'm new, I don't want to be punished because I didn't know 'x' sucks, or 'y' sounds good but isn't, or 'z' works well but is no fun to play.

I assume from your description, however, that although you can now use the npc to respec all your skill points, they don't return your stat points?

A shame, really, since one without the other is often likely to be not terribly helpful. Nevertheless, I think your idea is a sound one.

I like this mod and the cooldown of using full respec its like a smack to your face to tell you to make your specing choices better,also it will keep people from just making Act specific skill sets or the temptation of it.

That's not a bad idea, but I would take a different route with it. The more you use a skill the more the bar of exp for said skill increases (for damage skills count damage with it, more needed for more damaging/aoe ones). You would be able to increase a skills level regardless of your characters level but your characters level could determine the max you can train said skill. For passives I guess I would just give them a passive point each level. Or if there was a way to "train" it, for example heavy lifting on engineer, you could count damage with 2 hand weapons. As for decay I think all skills using this process could decay very slowly but faster as neglection goes on. The decay I would let continue until you forget the skill, but there would be a certain level where decay stops if you get there, called mastery level. It's like when you learn to ride a bike: you don't forget that stuff. However, I think it would be difficult to balance :/

I'm still hoping we start seeing some mods that fundamentally change the game systems, not just the game world (like Synergies, which is awesome). Like, a realistc system, where you choose a skill BEFORE you get it. You choose a skill,a dn any experience you gain goes to raise that skill. You can change at any time, but your experience invested in a skill will gradually decay back down to a previous level unless you hit the next level, and so forth. That'd be like choosing tsomethign and saying, "i'm gonna train this skill and practice". But, it'd also be like, when you step away from a particular skill for a while, you might lose your edge really and plateua(sp?). Even in such a system, it'd still be cool to have a magically based way to respec, but with some cost. Or, it could cost more to change the skill to something completely different, but much less to change the skill to something similar, in the same tree.

That's my idea, internet. Feel free to steal it.

I dunnow, Mog. I agree with some of the things you said. I mean, I'd argue realism is one reason why there's no original respec potion, but the whole "click a button, gain any skill" is unrealistic. It's just that being able to constantly, persistently change your skills to whatever you want is even less realistic. I would have to believe they are trying, at least a little, to increase realism as a way of significance and emersion. I can understand that, in vanilla, they wanted your skill choies to matter, and encourage people to play trhough more with different builds, while still being able to correct immediate mistakes. I don't think it's supposed to be a time/gold sink. That said, I don't think that method of skill modification is best either.

If you're going to have it at all, why limit it's frequency? Also, with all the possible builds, why do you want to pick once and penalize yourself if you want to try something different later? This isn't an MMO - there's no reason for time and (additional) gold sinks, there's no reason to limit your choices or ability to change your mind. If you want to not "cheat" or upset the game's balance, don't alter the total amount of skill points you have, and don't allow it outside of towns. If you want the game to be challenging, there's a ton of ways to do it that don't involve you being forced to decide one time where your skill points go. It's quite nice not having to make an entirely new character because I want to try out a slightly different play-style on the same class. 2/2

Integrating respec into a game is not a balancing act. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to respec, in town, at will. It still forces you to think about those choices, but it's far more forgiving if you mis-click, or just don't like the skill(s) in the long run. Being able to respec doesn't hurt the meaningfulness of the choices, it just lets you change your mind later. Being able to change your mind doesn't change the fact that weak/low dps builds will still be weak/low dps builds - it just lets you change when you learn you made one. 1/2

Integrating respec into a game can be a tough balancing act. You want to make the player's choices meaningful, but offer the flexibility to refine their build. Runic had the right idea, but I'm afraid for this kind of game players just want more. Your solution is spot on: it integrates well with the game world, offers a deeper respec, and still forces the player to think about their choices. Well done!

If I understood you correctly, no it shouldn't happen. That list is essentially untouched, the only change is increasing the size from 3 to 6. Try rerolling the world, maybe that'll help (somehow).

small problem here for me, i did a full respec "meditate". than i put all my points back in the skills i wanted to put them in but... i have no points in the skill shadowling ammo and yet they keep spawning. not complaing just wondering if that was intended?

Only if I can find a way to refund stat points via UI too... Well, I will keep looking anyway.

By the way, is cooldown allright? Shall I reduce it? How about the cost of full respec? Or, individual skill refunds? Anything related to these, shoot them under suggestions or here.

Nice MoD this is a better solution for respect than a drink and forget potion, and if u could make it more meaningful for later difficulties like lose one level of ten every full respect (lvl 100 goes back to 90) so all the respect thing does have some impact on the game, that ll be nice

Also I don’t know how hard ll be to add a builder interface so u don’t spend points by accident (to prevent to use points when for some reason u close the interface and the points get spend) , that ll be nice or at least a reset button when u r allocating points XD
