It still can happen, no matter how powerful your system. There may be a file in there that I didn't optimze well enough, or some other error on my part in saving the files (missed a mipmap that I didn't include. But, with nearly 70,000 current subscribers, there are going to be issues here and there. Again, modding is sometimes a gamble, since not every system is the same, and modders aren't paid to develop for every possible scenario, nor to correct every possible issue. If I had $1 for every install, I'd be able to take off work for a year to hunt down what's causing your issue, but that's not how it works on the workshop.
HunterZ 10. juli 2016 kl. 12:28
Well so far it hasn't happened anywhere else so I'll see how it goes. I actually saw some drops into the 30s.

CPU is an Intel Core i7-6820HK @ 2.7-3.6 GHz (much more powerful than my desktop's Core i7-860 @ 4.2GHz) and I'm running from a Samsung SSD.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 10. juli 2016 kl. 12:04
Sometimes that happens. It really depends on the number of unique objects, etc. there are. I doubt messing with settings helps because the retex mods will be more taxing on the cpu as it swaps files out. 45 as your minimum isn't that bad, tbh. But, it's up to you whether or not it's worth it.
HunterZ 10. juli 2016 kl. 10:37
I get FPS drops to around 45 in slavers camp on a GTX 980M (which is good enough to run Fallout 4 on almost max detail). Turning down/off various settings doesn't make a difference.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 7. juli 2016 kl. 5:52
@shaggy lol. Well, if you look up how to unpack the game files in the GUTS tutorial, you can figure out how to unpack my two mod files, from there, you just merge them into a single folder, then repack them with GUTS. But, it's been a long time since I've messed with this stuff, so Spekkien is probably a better resource.
TheBloolek 7. juli 2016 kl. 5:26
I mean, I'm still here :D And it would be helpful to have that
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 7. juli 2016 kl. 4:29
I was responding your comment. His comment was from a year ago. I doubt he still does, but since the discussion was necromanced, I thought I'd at least respond.
Olvenmage 7. juli 2016 kl. 2:36
Don't know if he still needs it or not..
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 6. juli 2016 kl. 21:21
yeah, my GUTS has been broken for probably a year. I've uninstalled it, and reinstalled it, unpaked everything, and just decided to forget about it.
Olvenmage 6. juli 2016 kl. 13:13
I can do it for you, 1 minute work
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 18. feb. 2016 kl. 16:21
It's not difficult, it just doesn't work for me at the moment (immediately crashes). It's not terribly complicated like the Fallout/Skyrim mod tools always are.
TheBloolek 18. juli 2015 kl. 15:09
I've never used GUTS before, is it difficult? I will definitely give it a shot though.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 18. juli 2015 kl. 14:41
No. There is a limit to file size on the Workshop, and this mod has to be split in 2 parts or else it can't be on the workshop at all. You can use the GUTS tool to unpak the mods and repak them into a single folder if you want, but every time I try to link to the external host I have for both parts combined, Steam removes the link.
TheBloolek 18. juli 2015 kl. 13:34
Is it possible for you, Thoughtcrime, to make a one-part subscription for this mod? I would love one free mod spot and I use both of Enhanced Retex parts (I believe that this is what many of this mod's users do) and merging those two parts together would definitely help at least some of the players.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 14. apr. 2015 kl. 5:58
I actually had to uninstall GUTS and TL2, then reinstall and update both. Not sure if it worked for mac and linux, but at least the files are back up.
Med 13. apr. 2015 kl. 18:32
looks like it's working so far!
GamesOnTheBrain 13. apr. 2015 kl. 18:25
Can you uninstall GUTS and reinstall it?
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 13. apr. 2015 kl. 18:05
There's a chance that the issue has been resolved with Enhanced Retex disappearing. I'm still getting a run-time error with GUTS, but I accepted Steam's new workshop terms, so it's possible that the update is now live. If the files are still gone, then everything is screwed because I can't get GUTS to run properly with my mod any more.
GamesOnTheBrain 13. apr. 2015 kl. 11:03
I'm very sorry to hear that. Thank you for your efforts!
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 13. apr. 2015 kl. 10:23
I tried to push an update to include Mac and Linux users as I've been catching a lot of grief lately about the mods not working on those platforms. In the process the GUTS modding tool crashed into an unrecoverable state, and apparently deleted the mod files : /.

I'm going to have to figure out how to fix the GUTS tool so I can get the packages back up, I suppose.
Med 13. apr. 2015 kl. 6:48
hmm. Did Enhanced Retex part 1 and 2 go away on steam workshop? I mean, i see the collection here, but clicking on either of them shows they're either hidden or something else.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 25. mar. 2015 kl. 11:37
I'll have a look and see if the GUTS application will allow me to set those directories. I would think that the workshop would install them in the correct place, since the only thing that is different is the two folders before Runic Games. Everything else is the same. Maybe I just need to re-open GUTS and enable Mac/Linux support. I'll look into it.
GamesOnTheBrain 24. mar. 2015 kl. 22:04
Do you need help with the file structures for Mac? The base directory for TL2 mods on a Mac is:

~/Library/Application Support/Runic Games/Torchlight 2/mods

~/Library/Application Support/Runic Games/Torchlight 2/mods/enhanced retex a
~/Library/Application Support/Runic Games/Torchlight 2/mods/enhanced retex b

I'd love to see this work on my Mac.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 8. feb. 2015 kl. 18:44
I'm pretty sure it isn't compatible because I don't have a mac, and don't know what the folder and file structure are for a mac at all when it comes to torchlight.

I don't know of anything else like this, because I'm the only person that I know of that's gone through and tweaked every single texture in the game.

I wish I knew how to make it work for a mac, but, honestly, I hate those things. :P

Thanks for trying to use my mod though. When I first made it, a mac version was just a glimmer for some future date, and I didn't look at compatibility issues for a mac.
Tlam 8. feb. 2015 kl. 13:50
Is this mod compatible with Mac? It seems that this mod causes my TL2 to crash. If it is not compatible, can you recommend another mod. Thanks!
ianErick 9. jan. 2015 kl. 5:00
synergies is linked to it, and also this seems wholely graphical, so I doubt it would conflict.
2Pac 10. okt. 2014 kl. 22:45
Will this conflict with synergies?
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 19. aug. 2014 kl. 10:56
Yeah, Jan. 9th was the last time I pushed an update to it. It's just too much hassle because half the time the workshop screws it up during the upload, and it stops working for people. Then I get it working for 50% of people, and when I get them fixed, another 25% that it used to work for now can't use it....I try to avoid updating unless it's broken and crashing people's game.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 19. aug. 2014 kl. 10:54
Well, I haven't made any changes to this in a very long time. As far as I know, it still works fine even though it's out of date because it's just textures, not any actual code. So the likelihood of them changing anything that would affect the functionality of the retex is near 0.
ModerateThundr 17. aug. 2014 kl. 7:26
And I have been using this since you put it up shortly after TL2 came out, and I wont play without it. Love everything about it. 100% recommended.
Also, I am trying another fix for it not updating, which is unsubscribing and then resubscribing to see if that works. It said that it hadn't been updated since January, and I knew that wasn't correct. So, we'll see what happens :D
ModerateThundr 17. aug. 2014 kl. 7:23
It's actually on page 3 for me. Look for Kami's post, and go from there :-)
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 17. apr. 2014 kl. 18:11
There's a fix on page 2 of the comments. It's an issue with the workshop and large mods (steam likes to ignore them). Each part of this mod is pretty much max size for Workshop mods, so it gets affected by the bugginess of workshop.
Beast 10. apr. 2014 kl. 2:08
Having issues with Enhance Retex 2 of 2. Shows up as a blank parameter with a check box. When checked it adds a blank parameter to the mods list. Does not show up as one of the mods ingame.
roberto tomás 21. mar. 2014 kl. 5:38
good job, thanks for that
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 19. mar. 2014 kl. 18:47
I'm not sure why it wouldn't let me link to my own screenshot, but, ok..... The first image link goes to the file that was too small before. Hopefully you can click between my two posts to compare the two large format images.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 19. mar. 2014 kl. 18:45
Oh, sorry, I was lazy and didn't check to see if the first image I linked went to the large or small size. Here is the large version of the first link: http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/541831196159356760/860935367C0B2F70C138B9DF91884C278C08071C/ and here is the large version of the second: http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/541831196159357141/8D3AC6F09C439AF33C13BBB674FCF138E5B3D20F/

I didn't actually just sharpen the images. I don't think sharpen was in there at all, actually. I think, in the description, I was addressing some other texture mods that were just sharpen^50. The texture edits that were done here were a combination of emboss, HDR, and layer effects, batch processed 1-3 times, depending on what environment the textures were used in.
roberto tomás 18. mar. 2014 kl. 6:27
you should provide same-sized images, it is impossible to see any differences with the one image so tiny. The main difference I actually see is a change of tint from the difference in time of day when the snapshots were taken.

I understand from your description that you used a sharpen filter on the textures.. and that might be worthwhile but the samples do not show it.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 17. mar. 2014 kl. 19:56
If you look at the difference in depth in the design of the temple in this image: http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/541831196159356760/860935367C0B2F70C138B9DF91884C278C08071C/637x358.resizedimage and this image http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/541831196159357141/8D3AC6F09C439AF33C13BBB674FCF138E5B3D20F/ you'll see what I mean.

Specifically look at the etchings in the top of the temple spire, the designs cut in the rock, and the differences in the vendors building with the orange fabric draping, you'll see what I mean.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 17. mar. 2014 kl. 19:52
Addtional layers and processing for every texture file in the game in order to create a somewhat false depth of field. I increased the dynamic range between dark and light areas of each texture, which creates an illusion of more separation/distance between the raised areas and lower areas. Cracks look deeper, while highlights look a bit higher. Grass textures look slightly "longer" since there is deeper shading underneath and brighter highlights on upper edges.
Werewing 17. mar. 2014 kl. 18:41
Could you describe the specifics of the changes any better? What exactly do you change?
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 2. mar. 2014 kl. 10:18
Used to be four. Now, two.
roberto tomás 1. mar. 2014 kl. 4:44
The mod is split into two parts, not four parts :)
xxDOGOxx 7. feb. 2014 kl. 2:30
cool mod :embermage:
Turkeyfoot27 13. jan. 2014 kl. 13:07
Thanks for an awesome mod, and thanks to Moogy for figuring out the problem, I had it too.
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 3. jan. 2014 kl. 15:42
Are you a steam user? There is a link posted on the runicgamesfansite for non-steam users. You can use the mirror link to 4shared to get it there (it is NOT compatible with Steam if you get it from there).
76561198089656674 3. jan. 2014 kl. 12:31
Is there any other way to download this other than through the workshop. I been trying since last 2013? Please halp! :(
Moogy 23. dec. 2013 kl. 23:22
Yah, what I did was subscribed to just the first one, manually copied it when it downloaded, and then subscribed to the second one. Manually copied that and now it's working just fine. Granted when an update comes out, who knows if it'll work, but at least I've got things functioning for now. It's unfortunate such a trivial issue exists with the Steam system, which should be more refined relative to managing workshop downloads and movement of files.
Big_Tuna 23. dec. 2013 kl. 14:17
I figured it out. Thanks man for the follow up!
Thoughtcrime  [ophavsmand] 22. dec. 2013 kl. 18:43
@Moogy, it's not just large mods, it's other mods too. The workshop is strange when it has a lot of traffic. I've had small mods get stuck for a few minutes, and then shut down (or timeout). I've had to restart the client a few times, but it will finish downloading when the traffic congestion chills out a bit. Steam sale weeks are always a bunch of chaos and issues, and I've talked about it with others, and it seems to feel like it's just a traffic congestion issue.
