Yup. That was my first placement. The issue is consistent.

I have also discovered that if you travel away from that grid and then return, when it reloads the defender has vanished visually and interactively, even after it was visible before your departure from the area.

heres a odd situation to you peaceman. When placing and recruit of any type they are invisible. Re-connect to the server, and if your next to them, you can now see them. any placed recruit that was out of line of sight is invisible and cant be interacted with,

They do still function, ie shooting barbarians, you just cant see them or hear them shooting.

any thoughts ?

looks like they don't pick anything from crates(5x5) in CE. at least i've tested veteran lookout defender on PNL.

On my server, the name tags for the rookie crossbow defender are set everywhere. This wouldn't normally be an issue but it means that the names of each section of the crossbowman's inventory is so long that I can't read what goes where. I've figured out obviously that they take crossbow bolts but since I can't read the names of anything, I'm a little confused as to what goes everywhere else. I'm not sure if you ran into this issue before but if you do get a chance to fix it (take your take, I promise there is no rush at all. Not like you're getting paid for to do this.) I would be very grateful. Thanks for making an awesome mod and dealing with updates!

I will soon add rifle defenders that use bolt action rifles (as new mod)
They are for our ww2 themed server.
I always wanted matchlock versions but never found the time to make them

@peaceman Have you thought about adding either musketeers or cannoneers to take advantage of your Matchlock and Bronze Cannon mods, perhaps to target players and grids respectively?

They don't move. If their crossbow has line of sight of enemies they can hit them. So they can shoot through battlements, machicolations. They have a chest next to them where you put the food, bolts, bandages. They can get food from nearby crates (50m), not sure if also bolts.

There is more to it. Like how do you make them stand at a specific spot to defend? Can they see over battlements? Can they shoot thru machicolations? will they be able to spot barbarians on a 4 block high wall while shooting thru machicolations? Where do you put the food to feed them every day? Where do you put ammo for them? Do they just check any and all chests near them for it? There are lots of questions that would be answered if there was a mod spotlight for your mod. And yeah, you could just explain it to me, and you probably will. But then you'll have to explain it to every person that shows up with similar questions. :cgpout:

you feed them, arm them and they shoot on barbarians or enemy players. Nothing more to understand :D

Got it working... had to unsub, delete on server and my local, log out of steam, them log in and resub to force a download, then copy it over to the server...

im getting the same hang at 99 % and re-logging doesn't solve, I deleted the mod and redownload, same issue... re-log... still hangs.... ( on DS )

question - do AI Defenders activate On Sight or Within Radius when an enemy is spotted? do they have to have a line of sight to physically see a moving enemy <or> for example could i put a Lookout Defender behind my wall? could i bury in a voxel pit my Spy Defender?

The defender's box is always at the back-right relative to where the defender is facing

The other thing that could be cool is that if an arrow would be added so you know what direction the defender was facing when placed. But that may not matter as they face the enemy anyway.

Bug: If defenders are placed as part of the same small grid, only the first defender placed will respond to instructions from the command horn

Can you add a check so they also respond to horn commands from House members? Only the player who placed them has control. Not sure how easy that might be.

I think something like 6 breads for 24 hours. If your playing on a server they used to eat when nobody was around but since 0.7 they no longer so they don't eat much at all anymore

Found out that I needed to blow the horn and set the units to standby before I tried to move them. What ever you do, don't try to use a hammer on them. They will be gone.
Note: you must remove any items that you put in there inventory before moving.

If you need it for multiplayer you will have to upload it as your own mod

+1 on shooting deers. Those are pests when come to farming devices. They don't "see" dynamic blocks as obstacles and keep bumping into it, too often destroying any kind of dynamic device.

Maybe to create dedicated "hunter" defender ? So, only people who need such feature and only on specific places near farms would use them. That would not break existing defenders.

Also, if possible ot add on existing defender inventory GUI slider for their field of vision and range.
That way it would be possible to setup some defenders behind arrow slit walls. They would not shoot on any other direction and only if some enemy comes too close to the walls.

That might work quite well with combination of other defenders that shoot from different places from greater distances.
