Well, assault rifle and SMG also seem to do the same, haven't yet tested the pistol.

Honestly not sure, to confirm that it does happen I just put five of them in a single squad, gave them all Degtyarovs and started randomly firing in one direction, waving the aim all over the place, eventually it triggers and instantly everyone but the guy in the rear get their head blown off.

do they explode? is the gun inside or just behind the friendly?

Firing Degtyarov while standing behind friendlies randomly kills them, not sure what causes it.
