To kill speed, use the speed brake, can be mapped analogue or just a "hold key for speed brake". Makes VTOL much more controllable, and allows very nice rapid landings.

Already did it. It definetly makes things easier, but the trouble of droping speed and landing is still there. The problem is that's not a chopper, you cannot simply raise your nose and dump your speed instantly, you have to turn you engines off long before you arive to your destination and glide to drop your speed, and it's still a very slow process. This problem makes it nearly useless because you cannot use most of your speed, you won't be able to drop it because of Arma's relatively small maps.

Try turning auto-vectoring off and setting the vectoring up and down to custom hotkeys. that way you can go from flight mode to hover mode manually. I find that much easier to control.

Too bad you won't land it like in Xcom. Fucking Vtol is very-very hard to fly.

Oh, I'm thinking of doing a re-skin of the Xi-an that has CTRG camo on it instead of the default hex skins, but I wasn't sure how complicated it would be to do it.

I don't know if there are any tutorials. If you download the arma tools there are some examples with some PSDs of vehicles. I used those to create the textures. Then you have to convert your images into the proper format with the arma tools. Then you have to build a script for it to work, which I didn't do, my friend Sasha did. after that you have to compile it with and publish it with the tools again. That's kinda the general outline of how I did it, honestly with the scripting stuff it's a little more complicated to get stuff to work then I would recommend to most people.
