I'm creating a modmod for Vox Populi overhaul called Alternative Component Names for VP. One part of this modmod is changing City Lists from modern to old ones from ruler's period. I had problem with Celts (Iceni), but I can see you created such list. May I use it?

I'm glad someone did this. I wanted it just to remove the "Celtic" city of Londonderry :-(
NocturnalEye 23. nov. 2015 kl. 22:15
can you still get the achievement for getting llanfair? or no - mods = no achievment?

@Craig Boone not really, lol. I'm pretty sure Icelandic is a lot closer to English than it is to Welsh/Brythonic/Celtic. I get what you mean with the spelling but it's just what you get used to.
@gordonlucas this is a great mod but I think it would be nice to rename the civ to reflect your restriction to Brythonic Celts rather than the entire people (not that I am against said restriction, as a partial fanatic I think it's awesome!)

its like icelandic....hmm...something like "volcano rakkgghtydsdfv" or something like that

Thanks ewhalen - enjoy!

This is fantastic! I've wanted something like this for a while now. (Egypt with non-Ptolemaic names would be cool too.)
Miath 11. aug. 2014 kl. 16:55
They all seem legitimate so I'm not doubtingn your effort, was just wondering.
Rydrwyl  [ophavsmand] 11. aug. 2014 kl. 5:17
Astronomicon, I am far from an expert but I did my best
Miath 10. aug. 2014 kl. 11:46
I'm assuming 'more authentic' does include 'grammatically and linguistically correct'? Because they seem quite Gaelic, but as I don't speak the language and recognize at least one from Arthurian Legends...

Sounds awesome Ulixes, good luck with your mod!
Ulixes 7. juli 2014 kl. 14:17
I downloaded both your mods, you're right, those city names needed a correction and I mostly agree with your selection. I'm creating an huge overhaul mod and I'm going to include those names, obviously I will give you credit for the research.
Rydrwyl  [ophavsmand] 14. maj 2014 kl. 13:26
I chose it because of my love of The Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell. Perhaps not the most historically accurate choice but there you have it!

Question: Why is Ynys Wydryn the capital? It doesn't seem to have been that important of a settlement. I think the capital should be either Venta Icenorum (the Roman town where Boudicca began her uprising), or Caerdydd (modern-day Cardiff, if we don't want to have such an obviously Roman name as the capital)
PaleBlueDot 25. feb. 2014 kl. 19:25
Love it! The utter lack of research they did for boudicca and the celts is just criminal.
ii EviN ii 15. feb. 2014 kl. 12:55
Should just ensure to clarify that this is Welsh Celtic :) while Irish Celts and Scots Celts are quite similar, Welsh Celtic is quite different. Don't want people having the stereotype/misinformation that 2k / Sid Meier / The powers that be had
Coban-Nobac 14. feb. 2014 kl. 17:30
this is great, being a nationalist scot and urquhart-maclennan who still speaks gaelic its great to see some historical accuracy
christoph-friedrich 30. aug. 2013 kl. 3:19
Well done.
A suggestion for BNW: For the Polish civilization there are some cities (just among the first ones), which didn't belong to Poland at king Casimirs time. Would You be so kind to replace them with really Polish cities?
LiamWilko 20. juli 2013 kl. 2:59
Well done. You should tell the Americans who made this game to research historical names better. Boudicca owned the East Country and had nothing to do wiht Edinburgh or Dublin (in fact they wernt even around then so its even more stupid).
Well done :)
Mega 18. juli 2013 kl. 8:15
Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Fav one
Chryphex 16. juli 2013 kl. 22:30
@gordonlucas - "in fact some of these are made up", for some reason I respect you for that
Cheems 2. juni 2013 kl. 18:12
Wrescsam?
But then again, it is just a :jarate:
devon_cartwright89 2. feb. 2013 kl. 13:12
@gordonlucas, ok cool makes sense. Though perhaps this should be named Brythonic city names instead as you miss out on Irish, Scottish, Manx, Brehon (Brittany - France), Gallician (Iberian Celts), Hallstatt (Swiss-German Celts), etc lol. None-the-less cool idea though :)
Matador Bravo Charlie Zulu 1. feb. 2013 kl. 13:44
I really do like it! thnx mate
Rydrwyl  [ophavsmand] 30. jan. 2013 kl. 16:00
Thanks for the comments all! I'm glad you all like it. I may tackle the Iroquois next... other requests/suggestions welcome.

@devon_cartwright89 - I tried to stick with Briton names since Boudica is the leader and I thought it was more authentic if I could keep them to as common a dialect as I could.

@The Saxon - yes Dumnonia was a kingdom or region vs. a city, however it was an important area and I thought deserving of a name. It is difficult to come up with a long list of authentic Brythonic settlements so in fact some of these are made up.
TreeasaurusRex 30. jan. 2013 kl. 8:02
This a wonderfully well thought out mod to the Celts my friend. You've done the Irish proud and satisfied the outraged Celtic ancestors that were probably offended by the Anglo-Saxon names Civ V put on their cities.
Gorhaax 29. jan. 2013 kl. 11:19
The more immersion the better!
For the future I would love to see other civs with their native names.
CamelSupremacy 28. jan. 2013 kl. 21:17
Isn't dumnonia a Tribe/clan rather than a city?
devon_cartwright89 27. jan. 2013 kl. 10:19
Cool, but you've shafted Irish cities from the list. What of Dun na nGall, Baile Atha Cliath, Cill Chainnigh, Beal Feireste, Luimneach, Corcaigh, Phort Lairge, Tara, or any other?
Rydrwyl  [ophavsmand] 26. jan. 2013 kl. 13:06
Hahaha... maybe I will try one day then
aMiyafuji 26. jan. 2013 kl. 12:39
I don't really know any Iroquois names though :/
Rydrwyl  [ophavsmand] 26. jan. 2013 kl. 9:19
Miyafuji Yoshika ... we could create one. If you post some names we can try to create a list and I can upload the mod for you.
aMiyafuji 25. jan. 2013 kl. 14:25
Is there a mod like this out for the Iroquois? Seeing English or French names after the first few cities just doesn't feel right at all.
osake 25. jan. 2013 kl. 6:14
XD
Rydrwyl  [ophavsmand] 24. jan. 2013 kl. 12:46
Thanks both!
Xaloth 24. jan. 2013 kl. 12:18
am happy to see something like this, lot of effort has been put into the finding out some of the welsh names, llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch can be shortened to just llanfairpwll. :P it was made longer only recently because the village wanted to bring tourism in somehow. I've some other points about some of the counties you've used as cities, but, all in all I like it :)
davidamx 23. jan. 2013 kl. 20:18
Finally real names for the celtic city not the anglo saxon names for the cities
