Does need updated?
etanaratsastaja  [ophavsmand] 2. juli 2021 kl. 6:54
@Jackie it should still work with 3.3.3 and the decision is added in a separate file so it shouldn't interfere with that mod.
Jackie 1. juli 2021 kl. 16:46
Still works with 3.3.3?
I have another mod for starting the viking age early, the mod alter the cm_major_events.txt do this affect this mod? I assume the Varangian events are on another txt but just asking to be sure.

Ooops, I should add the Balts to the Silk Road travellers, sorry. All the peoples around the Baltic Sea. The story of Rurik is a creation myth, written several centuries later, and none of the Norse languages actually have names the Primary Chronicles mentions as the 3 brothers establishing the Rus empire (actually Estonians have as closely reminding names). Genetic research found the modern Rurikids have Y-haplogroup N subclade most common and originating in the Baltic Peninsula.

The 1st Rus capital was in Finnish lands, had a Finnish name (probably Alajoen linna, Low River Castle) which the norsemen twisted into Aldeigjuborg (Staraya Ladoga) known from sagas. It was a multiethnic town which started as a Finnic-Slavic trade site. The Rus didn't call themselves with any Norse, Finnic or Slavic tribal name which makes it hard to identify them. Linguists say the name Rus possibly comes from Finnish word ruotsi meaning rowboat crew, which means the name was used by Finnish speakers. Maybe in Aldeigjuborg. Then the Rus adobted the name. Also Gothlandic, Saxon and Flemish traders tralled the Northern Silk Road, as did Iranian and Turkic speakers
retrobarbaari 18. maj 2020 kl. 2:33
Yes, Slavs were in the Varangian Guard. The Rus were probably multiethnic. There is about 2000 rune stones in Sweden (most in Svealand), 250 in Denmark and 50 in Norway, some are in England, Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man. None in Finland, none in Russia, one in Ukraine (in Odessa). British Isles were target of Danes and Norwegians who had less culture for rune stones than Svea tribe Swedes. Some runestones mention trips to Gardariki (Russia) and Greece. There are runic writings found in Russia, so obviously there were some norsemen. Novgorod Primary Chronicles don't even mention Varangians until from 1100 AD onward... before that the name Rus was used.

and Normans

Cool mod! If there was a way to include Anglo-Saxons or later Russians into it that would be dope!
Spartan_David_-_147 8. dec. 2019 kl. 9:53
Brilliant Mod, though I would definitely consider adding the option to cultures such as Russian and Anglo-Saxon, for the historical accuracy and role-playing aspects. Great mod overall and thoroughly recommend it!
MacDuff 10. nov. 2019 kl. 1:51
Please, when deciding right away add trait Varangian!

May return without trait Varangian:warplate2:
Tikiisgod(tristan beal) 13. juni 2019 kl. 9:39
Can I use your code in my mod if I give you credit?
MK Black 8. juni 2019 kl. 3:48
Indeed, why not Slavs?
FJ2 11. jan. 2019 kl. 9:17
But the first Varangians where the Rus people so you should add Slavic Cultures too not to forget that some Anglos-Saxons also became Varangians after the Viking invasion and a event where they get replaced by the greeks like irl
etanaratsastaja  [ophavsmand] 5. dec. 2018 kl. 10:38
@EnderDragonFire I've just updated the mod to work like the event in the base game. You can now send daughters to the varangian guard if your laws or religion allows it.
Hariti Khatri 4. dec. 2018 kl. 20:40
Any way to make thisn work for females? I find it annying that as an enatic-reformed Norse, I can't send my daughters to the Varangian Guard.
Leif 7. juli 2018 kl. 3:22
god damn neets
MC Bimbada 18. feb. 2018 kl. 9:41
Come on, i'm the supreme Pater Familias, why cant I send my NEET brother away? GO AWAY, HARALD!
Inquisitioner 2. feb. 2018 kl. 0:39
Died reading the NEET part of description, comedy gold!
xvt0095 20. jan. 2018 kl. 19:45
hey, i have a Question. after i send my son to B.G. when he will return?
etanaratsastaja  [ophavsmand] 29. dec. 2017 kl. 7:16
@One Gallon Of Whole Milk Yes, this only works for sons. NEET brothers are sadly a lost cause.
G.Strategos 6. dec. 2017 kl. 18:01
@deskchairlamp

Thanks mate.
Cheers
etanaratsastaja  [ophavsmand] 6. dec. 2017 kl. 8:46
@G.Strategos Yes that should be fine.
G.Strategos 6. dec. 2017 kl. 0:39
@deskchairlamp

Hey mate. Should I use this with 2.7.2 version of CK2 ? I guess it'll be ok since there is no serious scripting in this, right ?

Cheers.
BoboMaximus 19. nov. 2017 kl. 16:10
@PFC Gustav [29ID] True enough. it is a great Mod. Only 2 culture Groups would qualify Norse and Anglo-Saxons that had Norse ancestry.
BoboMaximus 19. nov. 2017 kl. 16:02
Slavic people are Not Native to Russia . they are from the Ukarine region and migrated into those regions and oppress the Native Uralic peoples.
Varangian =Norse or Viking
Native peoples of Russia = Mordvins (Uralic )
Chip 19. nov. 2017 kl. 15:43
Nobody seems to read the FAQ now, great mod though.
BoboMaximus 19. nov. 2017 kl. 15:41
@monkeytribe Part of that is True. Migrating Norse Mix with the Slavs In that region. Varangian is the Name that was giving to the Vikings by Slavs and the Greeks. Varangian (Vikings) Ruled that region in the 9th-11th centrys.
BoboMaximus 19. nov. 2017 kl. 15:31
@[IG] [HoB] SoloTOV They are Slavs. And the Aceint Rus are not Slavs
Solo Cat Collector 19. nov. 2017 kl. 3:22
@monkeytribe as you know russian comes from the word rus, so its pretty obvious they were russians, not ALL of them mind you. The word "Varangian" originates from the northern lands around novgorod. In general, the varangian guards represents those who came from those lands, since more and more joined their ranks after aiding Vladimir in reconquering the Rus. After that they served the byzantine empire, some russians came back to rus, some stayed for the gold that the empire offered. It doesn't really matter if they're russians or not, they were vikings, a fearsome fighting force who helped shape the future of the Rus and the byzantine empire.
Scottx125 17. nov. 2017 kl. 11:42
To buy armour, food and maybe acceptance fee into the group?
Das Boot 17. nov. 2017 kl. 8:53
Why 100 gold? That's way more then travel costs would be.
Jacky Treehorn 17. nov. 2017 kl. 7:28
Any idea how this could be implemented into Historical Immersion Mod - is it just a matter of copying some lines and files ? Sorry I was always to lazy to mod anything myself in CK2..
monkeytribe 17. nov. 2017 kl. 5:56
@1488 @Macharious716 they werent Russians, they were Rus which were norse descendants who settled in modern Belarus/Ukraine. The guard consisted almost solely of norsemen until the end of the viking era around the 11th century. Seriously people, you should read up on things before making inaccurate statements
.//magnus 16. nov. 2017 kl. 14:16
Can I modify and release it (with credits)?
Solo Cat Collector 16. nov. 2017 kl. 10:23
@robo.parks they were russian, learn your lessons.
𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞 16. nov. 2017 kl. 8:59
@vince they can go, but you can't send them :steamhappy:
Scotvince 16. nov. 2017 kl. 8:11
But, it is in the base game, no ?
Modern ☭ 16. nov. 2017 kl. 6:08
Yes i'd love to get my sons into the Knights of Zun.
Bedivere 15. nov. 2017 kl. 19:54
i'd love to see this for the templars, hospitallers and other holy orders too
Macharius716 15. nov. 2017 kl. 19:33
@robo.parks the Kievan Rus don't qualify? They formed the original members of the varangians
BoboMaximus 15. nov. 2017 kl. 16:33
@Thumb of Michigan varangians were not Russian.
Bird 15. nov. 2017 kl. 14:42
just for a bit of historical accuracy i would suggest you allow anglo saxons and russians to also be allows given the fact that the first varangians were russian and the 11th century saw a huge influx of english join after the norman conquest of england
LouisTheStammerer 14. nov. 2017 kl. 17:49
Cool mod. Historically speaking this sort of did happen, though sons away serving with the Greeks could not inherit land back in Scandinavia while they were gone.
BoboMaximus 14. nov. 2017 kl. 10:46
@duckpissedman I like that Idea / But not Varangian Guard. It could be done in a re-vamp of the Merc system.
BoboMaximus 14. nov. 2017 kl. 10:25
This is a very good IIdea. Story events could be added Young men in court Noble or Low Born. Would want to be in your service to gain the enrty fee. Then leave your court. When you raid your coammanders could get portion of the gold that was raided. Im just thinking out loud here. The Game needs more Historcal Immertion. Paradox will not get that thier thick skulls. Instead of millions of Hisrtoical event storys and events and turning them into Organic game mechanics . We get a diarrhea event. :steamsad:
BoboMaximus 14. nov. 2017 kl. 10:03
@J O E Hes not off , Thier were Anglo-Saxons in the Varangian Guard. The Entry fee is Historical.

BoboMaximus 14. nov. 2017 kl. 10:00
After thier Service in the Guard (20 years) would they become and Adventruer and Challanged thier brother. After their Father has Died? As Such in the Case of Norway?
