The helmet camoflage is based on the common camoflage pattern used on the M1916 Stahlhelm during the first world war, as seen here. [s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com]

the "bizzare" helmet camo is actually paint which reacts to poison gas as some sort of early warning system for nonsmelling combat gasses.

The pith itself derives from the Pickelhaube, and while we strongly associate it with Britain, it was used in Imperial Germany for their schutztruppen as well. See here [s400910952.websitehome.co.uk] for an example of troops wearing the German Pith (Tropenhelm) in 1914.

@1stEPI Gunny, just saying that image does say 1934 Wermacht Afrika Korps, since the Germans won the war, more people would most likely adopt German-Style equipment, and they wouldn't want to wear the same stuff worn by Syndies.

This was made before the Askari models were added. On top of that we're not huge fans of the Askari skins. Furthermore, the Germans did use a pith helmet in Africa during WW2, so we saw it as being something they could use in the second weltkrieg.
