@Montressor This mod works fine with MNaN. The country randomizer should use MNaN's country weights, in which countries added by MNaN should show up ~20-25% of the time, so it seems you're on target.

This mod does break up the ethnic first and last name pairing MNaN does though - names are created based only on country, race/skin tone, and gender. So if you've got an Indian-American, finding a different Indian surname to match my first name takes a lot of clicking through Hispanic surnames.

I've created my own version locally that adds a "Random Full Name" button that preserves the ethnic name pairing; it's about 20 edited lines of code. If anyone wants to see the changes I made, let me know and I'll fork thades' version on Github.

Just tested it and it seems to pick up the nations and names sometimes. The randomization places heavy bias on the original countries and names though. Something like 80% of randomizations are the original countries and names.

Hey @Dragon32! This request has come up a few times and after a lot of thought I determined there was no way for me to do that in a satisfactory way, due to inconsistencies in how VPs are named.

I could conceivably make a very user-intensive mod where users would need to build their own config out for such a button, but demand is tiny and my time is so short these days. I'm sorry. :(

as i massively store appearances in names for Uniforms, this mod is an reliefe since years, when next dark sniper viper comes up in pool, click, and its herbert the Emperor, nickname snakepride:) thx for it.

@Dragon32 - nope I just realized they were not... that works now they are set up properly.

For anyone it helps running my ultrawide resolution (3440 x 1440 / 21:9) - here are my settings for the buttons to show up in the config:

RNBConf_Anchor = 3
RNBConf_PanelXOffset = -550
RNBConf_PanelYOffset = 150

I have custom class soldiers (eg Spec Ops, Infantry) and they dont get the Nickname generator function. They are squaddie or higher. Is this a limitation of the mod with custom classes or some bug? How can I get it to pull from other lists (eg if Spec Ops > use Ranger nicknames / any nickname?)

Try disabling Faction Flags' override of UICustomize_Info in that mod's XComEngine.ini.

Setting load order in Alternate Mod Launcher doesn't work.

@mud-eye I'd guess that FF overrides a super-class that I'm downstream from then? Just a shot in the dark :\ There are definitely mods that add flags (along with nationalities) which have worked with my mod in the past, I can't really guess what they're doing differently with FF.

Sadly not exactly.
Faction Flags is always dominant. The load order doesn't matter. Well, in my case anyways.

Hi Mud-Eye, I'm really glad you're enjoying this mod; it's the entire reason I got into modding XCOM at all (I really wanted random nickname generation, the rest was just easy as it was adjacent in the code).

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Faction Flags at all: my best guess is that it overrides the same class(es) I override and whichever mod is lucky enough to come up first in the load order "wins" and will work while the other one won't (does that describe your experience?) as that's usually what happens. There's no easy way to fix that, sadly. :\

If you've just switched from the Firaxis Launcher, or are forced to use it, read the "Mods not activating/deactivating properly in WOTC" section of Mod not working? Mods still have their effects after you disable them?
If you're using the Community Highlander then read its specific troubleshooting advice [github.com].

Oh fercryinoutloud, I discovered, after reinstalling Random info, that it was indeed Load from Character Pool (wotc) that's using the same UICustomize_info, but now they're working together!

Very mysterious, only two things I can think of is either load order (fyi LFCP is 207, RSIM is 341), or the possibility that Faction Flags was throwing a spanner in the works (I seem to recall that was red clashing with Load from Character Pool when they were together, whereas now that I'm not using faction flags and I am using RSIM, there's no red clash).

Load from Character Pool historically didn't work with this one. :) But hard to say now, I haven't tested it in a looooong time.

Hmm, on checking in AML, the only other mod I've got that uses UICustomize_Info is "Load From Character Pool." It's possible that I accidentally unloaded both that and Unrestricted Customization at the same time in my modding frenzy, and blamed the wrong mod! :) That might be the culprit instead. I'll check and get back to you (Randomize is uninstalled atm, will fiddle).

They always say don't install a bunch of mods at the same time, but I always bloody do it :)

I personally have used Unrestricted Customization almost exclusively with this mod and it's been functional (awesome, even, I love it) but totally possible some recent change on their end ran into my mod in a bad way. Does anybody else use my mod with that one these days?
