I think one of the new gmod updates has busted this tool? A bunch of new advanced options appear on the tool panel for this, but the material list is back to the default one. And yes i did make sure to use just this

combine metal is different from normal metal
it interferes with The replicators mod, where Replicators will not take from it,
if you dont beleive me, install The replicators and spawn a large combine prop,
like the combine Train

i got a idea for a tool : Make Cylinder just like Make Spherical there is a car building comunity that builds cars and the wheels clip so they use Make Spherical but it doesnt have the right serface area as a wheel so Make Cylinder would be a perfect canidate

that is the problem, i lost the lua code of the old one, if i had the code i would add it again, since i lost the line of code which contained the super bouncy propertie. but u can use metal bouncy instead for the time being i guess.
