Agreeing with Dragon32 from a few years ago: this mod doesn't seem to honor the confi ini setting. It's putting scars on guys for just getting wounded.
Ninjutzu 26. nov. 2021 kl. 2:46
Rookie came back from her first mission with only a katana and a pistol equipped, after round house slicing her first kill on an advent trooper his buddy blasted her down to 2 hp resulting in missing half her face thank to the Cyborg Scars. Now she has to wear a mask (RP) = Awesome Mod!!

Does this pull from the available scar list (including mod-added ones), or do they need to be whitelisted somewhere?
Dragon32 7. aug. 2020 kl. 14:08
@Mr. Nice:
I seem to be getting scars on my troopers for any wound. I've set
SCAR_REASON=1

It's hard to diagnose but there seem to be many more scars than there should be.

Am I using the wrong format in the .ini so it's not being parsed? I originally had SCAR_REASON = 1 , but I doubt spaces would bork things.

That said I think I have been seeing too many scars throughout this campaign, regardless of what that's set to.
SonicShimmer 31. juli 2020 kl. 0:18
I had the same bug as CiXwOw, but due to computer breakdown, I completely forgot about XCOM.
Thank you both!
Donaghue 22. juli 2020 kl. 6:32
Personally, I like it when a lightly-wounded soldier comes back from the infirmary with half their face sutured up. It helps weed out the drama queens.
Dragon32 18. juli 2020 kl. 2:47
@Evangeline
When soldiers are gravely wounded there's a chance they'll get a scar cosmetic applied, they don't stack.
Shaken was a different thing in the base game to what it is in WotC but I don't remember the specifics. The scarring got bugged with the Alien Hunters DLC.
Evangeline 18. juli 2020 kl. 2:05
Good mod, I'm just a bit confused about how it works. I thought it would give them the scar while wounded and take it away once they are healed.

"the little feature which slowly turned the naive rookies you started the game with into grizzled looking veterans by the end" - does this mean they get more than one scar and they stack?

Also I think maybe changing to "gravely wounded" would be bettter. Shaken - I don't know what that even means anymore. Is it tied into the fatigue system now? Or does it mean the old "shaken" when you could get it from someone dying? Why would you get scars from your team mate dying though?
CiXwOw 25. mar. 2020 kl. 4:23
Oh wow! I wasn't sure if I'd get a response at all in 2020 let alone so quickly! That's awesome, thank you!
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 24. mar. 2020 kl. 13:58
Ok, fixed
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 24. mar. 2020 kl. 13:34
Right, the underlying mechanics are pre-wotc, and pre-wotc no scars were restricted by class, so the Firaxis code doesn't validate the random choice. Shouldn't be too hard to validate the scar now that I know it's an issue.
CiXwOw 24. mar. 2020 kl. 8:34
I've had a few soldiers receive Skirmisher scars.
As the character customisation screen doesn't allow this the scars menu shows as none and removes the scar.
Can anything be done about this?
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 24. sep. 2019 kl. 15:45
Maybe, the mod name carried over from pre-WotC, and pre-WotC "shaken" had a different meaning. The random check for old-style shaken if a unit is gravely wounded is still performed under the surface though.
3D Master 24. sep. 2019 kl. 10:07
Has anyone else seen scars appear on Shaken soldiers despite the fact the soldier didn't get wouldn't at all?

Similarly, gravely wounded guys don't seem to get scars unless they also get shaken.

This seems weird; shouldn't it be Gravely Wounded scars, not Shaken Scars.
Varric 25. aug. 2019 kl. 7:20
A gravely wounded soldier got a new scar thanks to this mod. The update is working pretty nicely. Thanks.
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 10. aug. 2019 kl. 4:40
Ok, that was easier than I thought it would be. An error meant the meaning of the SCAR_REASON wasn't evaluated properly. Probably crept in with the Dec 2018 update...
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 10. aug. 2019 kl. 4:23
It's been a while since I've worked on this mod, it seemed to work last year, I'll have a look this weekend if I have the time to see what's going on.
EvilPolygons 10. aug. 2019 kl. 4:02
No, it didn't make any difference. With SCAR_REASON set to 3, I played through an Avenger defense mission which left a couple of my guys shaken and everyone wounded. No scars.

After that, I finished the Chosen Assassin mission , and no one got any scars even though most of my guys were gravely wounded. I've played 2 missions since then and still no scars regardless of wound level. :steamsad:

This mod worked fine in Vanilla, but the WOTC version is totally nonfunctional as far as I can tell. There's a similar mod on the Workshop to this and I'm going to give it a try.
Landgreen 8. aug. 2019 kl. 23:14
@evildastard. Did it?
EvilPolygons 8. aug. 2019 kl. 0:11
This mod simply doesn't work. I've had SCAR_REASON = 2 in my last THREE campaigns and not a single scar has ever appeared on any soldier after being gravely wounded. I play on Ironman so I rarely finish a battle without at least one guy in a gravely wounded state.

The only other mod that I use which affects the odds of scars appearing is Rookie Customization Options, but that only affects NEW recruits, not existing soldiers.

I'm going to set SCAR_REASON = 3 for a few battles just to see if it makes any difference.
George Droid 8. juli 2019 kl. 2:58
This hasn't worked at all for me.
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 13. feb. 2019 kl. 20:59
Oh also, the recovery time for the ready state is not random at all. It's a strict linear recovery rate,
about 2.3% of max will per day, ie 16 days to recover from 67% to 100%.
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 13. feb. 2019 kl. 20:57
Sorry, don't consider that a mistake. the will recovery from the Ready state is fundamentally different than the tired/shaken recovery. The ready state recovery is gradual, where as with tired/shaken they get it all back in a lump at the end (which is why it's a really bad idea to send tired troops out who have nearly recovered). If you always recovered back to full will in 6 days or less when not tired, then the entire fatigue mechanic becomes pointless, and you will never get tired troops at all if you pay any attention.
KT Chong 13. feb. 2019 kl. 17:51
Could you please fix another mistake in the WotC that was likely a typo by the developer?

After a mission, your soldiers can be in three different states: ready, tired, and shaken.

The will recovery times for the three various states are:

Ready: 0-16 days
Tired: 8-12 days
Shaken: 14-20 days

A soldier is considered "ready" after a mission if his current will is better then 67% of maximum will, "tired" is 33-66%, and "shaken" is below 33%.

Tired and shaken make senses. However, It seems like a typo slipped in there for ready, as 0-6 days would fit the progression better. I think the typo is the additional "1" that changed 6 to 16.

Here is what IMO should be the correct will recovery times:

Ready: 0-6 days
Tired: 8-12 days
Shaken: 14-20 days

So, a consistent gap of 2 days between ready and tired, and between tired and shaken.

All data from GameData.ini, so it can be edited. However, I supposed not everyone wants to mess with ini file. Installing a mod is easier and simpler.
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 10. dec. 2018 kl. 11:30
Reworked to not use a context override anymore, so won't crash on being disabled. Note that it didn't crash before on saves during a mission, only strategy saves. For existing saves, the crash issue will go away from the next time you go on a mission.
KT Chong 9. dec. 2018 kl. 19:40
Here to confirm Incoming's comment:

I could not disable or remove this mod after installing and using it. When I tried to disable or removed this mod, my save games (which had this mod) would crash. I could not even load my save games so that I could use the "Remove Missing Mods" mod to fix the problem.
Soory Charlie 12. nov. 2018 kl. 19:40
Okay, thanks. I've been trying to find out why my games have been freezing before the skyranger at the end of missions, and thought this or that might've been calculating back and forth into eternity.
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 12. nov. 2018 kl. 17:53
Since this mod ultimately jus changes a cosmetic apperance option, can't see why I wouldn't be ok together.
Soory Charlie 12. nov. 2018 kl. 12:38
How does this interact with Gravely Wounded Prosthetics?
[82AD] Incoming !!! 27. mar. 2018 kl. 16:45
Disabling this mod alone from my game causes my save game to crash while loading.
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 3. feb. 2018 kl. 19:31
He just ripped of my Vanilla mod, with no prior request, only admitted that in his mod description that it was based on my mod under sufference. There are some technical differences due to how to handle the transfer form Vanilla to WotC were done differently, but I'm not going to download his mod again to check the details.
pauloel7 3. feb. 2018 kl. 16:43
Mr. Nice, pardom my rookie question: how exactly different are this and RealityMachina's http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1124311133? Are they complementary or excludent?
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 11. dec. 2017 kl. 13:57
Maybe, depending on how that mod does it's stuff. That the shaken in the past check was in the condition for gravely wounded just stood out when I had a look specifically for why gravely mighit not get a scar (given reason=2+) anyway.
8Kuula 11. dec. 2017 kl. 12:54
@Mr. Nice: Mod has been active whole campaign. Hmm, but I have "Rookie Customization Options - WotC + Classic" also, that I have set to not have scars. If that messes things up.

But I come back and cry more if my gravely wounded soldiers do not get scars.

Could take a while thou. I hope...

Thanks!
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 11. dec. 2017 kl. 3:52
@Kuula: Fixed now. What was happenning is that it wasn't giving gravely wounded soldiers a scar if they had previously been "Shaken wounded" before (in Vanilla, a soldier could only become Shaken once per campaign). Since they should have got a scar at that point in the past anyway, it slipped past testing. Presumably you either activated the mod mid-campaign (so some soldiers had been shaken wounded previously) or you cleared out a shaken-wounded granted scar in customization.
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 11. dec. 2017 kl. 3:19
Yeah, should be there in the amoury, I'll take a look.
8Kuula 11. dec. 2017 kl. 0:06
Not working for me, I have set SCAR_REASON = 2 and gravely wounded do not get scar.
I assume it should be there right after mission when checking in armory.
Dragon32 31. okt. 2017 kl. 11:00
@Badass_Ben:
Works for me.
Badass_Ben 30. okt. 2017 kl. 18:31
Can anyone confirm is this is working as intended for WOTC?
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 23. sep. 2017 kl. 12:49
Well since the old shaken status is no longer shown/has any effect you can't otherwise tell if your gravely wounded soldier was also shaken, old style. Try pushing up the setting in XComShakenScars.ini to either all gravely wounded (or all but light wounds if you want!). See if you notice it then.
QuickSaveTV 23. sep. 2017 kl. 9:40
I dont think its working, not sure why, maybe one of my other mods conflicts with it?
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 20. sep. 2017 kl. 13:56
The non-WotC version had issues with being disabled mid campaign, but it shouldn't be an issue to enable (the proper version!) mid campaign.
@Martigen: The old "shaken" status didn't apply to all gravely wounded, and as you identified Mox, with his existing scar, or a Spark, who can't get scars, woudn't apply anyway. Maybe I'll have a look at what exactly the chance of old school shaken was set at.
RapidRoy 20. sep. 2017 kl. 12:50
This mod sounds so cool!! Would it be an unwise decision to activate it in the middle of a campaign, because it seems like a few people are having problems with doing that
Martigen 14. sep. 2017 kl. 5:42
Yeah just reporting I don't think it's working -- I had 3 Gravely Wounded: Mox, well he has his own scar set so that wasn't going to work; my SPARK, obviously doesn't count; and a my lead Specialist -- she should have got one, but hasn't. When are they supposed to kick in? The moment you return to the Avenger wounded?
jeremiads 13. sep. 2017 kl. 16:43
Do you have to start a new game for this to kick in? I've had the mod loaded into the same game for about a week, and I haven't seen a single soldier get a scar from this. I've had a number of gravely wounded soldiers, too.
Martigen 13. sep. 2017 kl. 3:34
Yeah this is WOTC. However I did just get a Gravely Wounded soldier, so I'll see!
Dragon32 12. sep. 2017 kl. 12:48
My mistake.
Mr. Nice  [ophavsmand] 12. sep. 2017 kl. 11:14
Well WotC does have a new Shaken status from the fatigue system, but this mod still refers to the "old" meaning of shaken, which essentially means "some of the time, if gravely wounded" now.
Dragon32 12. sep. 2017 kl. 10:57
@Martigne:
This is the WoTC version, WoTC doesn't have the Shaken status any more. So I think you need "[Non-WOTC] Shaken Scars are Back!"
Martigen 12. sep. 2017 kl. 8:13
Ah, don't think this is working. I have two Shaken troops in armory atm, and have had three previously, and none have scars. Mod has been enabled since I started the campaign, and yes I've cleaned out the config dir and regenerated multiple times during my campaign (whenever I add a new mod).
