Well that depends on the severity. I can't stop users from spawning things inside the cave without being somewhat more intrusive with the code. I will see what I can do though.

Technically it prevents you from ever entering the cave, the crash itself can only be fixed with a recompile.

The area itself cannot be set by yourself, there's just three levels of it. On the server RCon or in your server.cfg, just do cave_strength x, x being the number above.

Would having a pure area system be something people are interested in?

Why does your game crash if you go in the cave? I always loved this map but i never quite understood why it crashes when you go in the cave.

If you read above, it states it can also slay the player or kick them. You can also enforce your own behaviour by using the function GAMEMODE:HandleCaveUser(player, severity) .

There is no direct options panel, however you can change the effects of things via running the console command server side.

It doesn't bounce you, it teleports you away. There is no freeze functionality.

yeah-- either when you come in it freezes you, catches you OR bounce away (i think).

Yes, the entire point of it is to prevent you from getting even close to the cave.
The cave itself can't actually be fixed due to the screwed up displacements in the map, so effectively the next best thing is to either decompile, remove and recompile (which many have done and has never caught on) or restrict how close players / entities can get to it.

I believe its too large to be uploaded to the workshop, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
It's still available on garrysmod.org though.
