It's about the same length as the original minus Xen. Some parts of the game have been extended, while a couple parts got shortened because of being too damn long and boring (On a Rail) or because the developer who was working on a specific section of a chapter bailed out of nowhere (Surface Tension).

As far as I'm aware, no. But there's no way in heck to play through the whole game, either the original or black mesa, and miss them.

They also appear in the factory part of Interloper if you break open one of the pods.

One first appaers in Questionable Ethics followed by a few more in the same chapter, they start appearing frequently at the half way point of Surface Tension, and in Forget About Freeman and Lambda Core, these guys along with the other aliens have taken over as the main enemy of the game.

That... that's not quite in my ability to do so... if I may reccomend an alternate source, however, having Half Life Source also allows you to use the npcs in Gmod, including the original Gargantua.
