Below is a concise reference by weapon category, with typical published maximum range and the practical engagement window you’ll commonly see in combat reports:

MANPADS (FIM-92 Stinger, 9K38 Igla / SA-18, SA-7/14 series)
• Published (typical): ~3–6 km maximum; ceiling ~3–4 km.
• Practical against helicopters: ~0.2–3 km (most confirmed shoots are within 0–3 km because target speed/angle, background clutter, and seeker lock matter).


Early/medium ATGMs (TOW, HOT, Konkurs/Fagot)
• Published: ~3–4 km (varies by variant; e.g., older TOW ≈3,000–3,750 m; Konkurs ~4 km).
• Practical vs helicopters: ~0.5–4 km — often used when helicopters are hovering, popping up, or operating at low altitude where the gunner has line-of-sight.

Nagorno-Karabakh / 2020: multiple helicopters were reported destroyed/disabled by ground-launched missiles (MANPADS and ATGMs); press reports do not always publish exact firing distances, but these engagements are typically at short to medium ranges (under a few kilometres).

Reorganized Soviet 39th Guards Motostrelki Division changes in Army General Fulda Gap Campaign.

Transport limitations create a need to break up the units so they can all be transported in 3 BMP's so the only way to get around the limitation is to spread out the units between vehicles. The added secondary advantage is that the Platoon HQ unit can be used as a buff for the weapons teams and the soviet player can use the company HQ can be used for infantry or IFV buffs.

So a soviet BMP motorifle platoon can still be deployed as shown in the documentation diagrams and rides in three BMP's, and the support weapons from the company still get a single BMP from the platoon HQ to load their 3 PKM medium machine guns, and the two 30mm grenade launcher teams, can ride in the CO HQ BMP and if the player buys two additional Platoon HQs. They can also get space for 3 additional strelas and. 3 additional PKM medium machine guns. It was the best way I could manage to reorganize the units to fit Russian combat doctrine using the game mechanics.
