New World Empires: SWORDS OF THE PROPHETS is a prequel to Rise of Kings: CHRONICLES, and the first installment of the NEW WORLD EMPIRES series of mods.

Whereas CHRONICLES concentrates on the six centuries following the rise of the Capetian Dynasty in France and the fall of the Tang in China, SWORDS OF THE PROPHETS this time has a single start date - 666 CE, and functions as a prologue - albeit much belated - to the 10th century world of CHRONICLES itself.

One of the more well-known mods created for Rise of Nations since its emergence in early 2004, the Rise of Kings mod series is now available as a mod for the Steam edition of Rise of Nations.

FEATURES

While the Rise of Kings series concentrates mainly on booming and expanding (the historically accurate long run scenario), New World Empires instead is built around rushing. Unlike Rise of Kings where you must first research new techs in order to open up all military options, here the barracks and the hovels are immediately ready. However, as this mod covers only a short span of time - 200 years - cities are understandably costlier, but buildings cheaper.

- 24 completed factions featuring different playstyles - from the melee-heavy Norse and Tibetans, to the more mobile Turks and Arabs (saracens don't exist).

- More custom units, with many new models and animations.

- A more variegated and complex mercenary management system. The Outpost isn't the only player in town.

- Aggressive gameplay. Barracks and Hovels can be built right away without the need for "teching up".

- Morale and information warfare. The LOS of most buildings and mercenaries is drastically reduced, making spies more useful. Professional units have higher LOS, while levies are almost deprived of them.

- A full set of medieval wonders to flesh out the Early Middle Ages.

CtW file nomenclature has been changed, to help facilitate the task of creating and editing CtWs for noobes like me.
There are many guides on how to work a CtW so I won't mention any of the steps. But if you want sea lanes to show up properly on the cosmetic render, you must use GIMP to edit CTW_WBI_HQC_Map_01.png.

I decided to take some time off - by designing a CtW map and its render. They are included in this mod but won't be converted into a fully functional CtW - that is for other people to do.

Only 2 wonders, and the unit sounds now remain to be done but those are a rather unimportant component. The buildings are being left out, for now, because I wanna do these slowly, to help myself write a modding guide for my minions.

Previous updates:

- Fixed some unit flag issues, so that Britons AND Indians get Longbow Levy.
- Tang Chosen Spearmen was rebalanced and gets an anti-Chinese attack, so keep your Han Spearmen, Southern Levies, Repeating Crossbowman and Imperial Legate as far away form them where possible.
- Suicide Soldiers were unlocked for Srivijaya.

TO-DO [1/6]

- Catalogue units on Fandom for rebalancing
- Insert new animations for Chinese trebuchet.
- JAPANESE: Uji Chief lacks proper melee anim.
- Redo Peasant Levies and Angry Mobs.

WISH LIST:

- Sounds are missing for some buildings and units. Cantonese or Hakka voice acting to replace Mandarin (but is this possible at all???)
- No Yaghnobi or Tibetan voice acting.
- Fix unit icons & help text, we haven't spent much on them.
- Insert tech restrictions, wonders
- Insert Stephanie's suggested balance rules.

- [EXPERIMENTAL] Some scenarios have been embedded into this mod. They consist of Korea (3 Kingdoms) and France (Charles Martel's wars).

Only 2 wonders, and the unit sounds now remain to be done but those are a rather unimportant component. The buildings are being left out, for now, because I wanna do these slowly, to help myself write a modding guide for my minions.

- [EXPERIMENTAL] Some scenarios have been embedded into this mod. They consist of Korea (3 Kingdoms) and France (Charles Martel's wars).
- Tech restrictions have been revised and are now in place (thanks almos22!)
- Fixed some unit flag issues, so that Britons AND Indians get Longbow Levy.
- balance.x is now complete and finalised, with units now functioning as self-counters.

Chosen Spearmen - counters Chinese units
Khazar Tudun - counters all low tier Turkic cavalry, use your unique units like Darqan or Avars to hunt them down.
Jarl Cavalry - counters low tier Norse units, bring your own Spearmen to counter them.
Midak - counters Tibetans: useful against enemy Du-Jong and Mud'ng but has an attack penalty versus Sde Dpon.
Datbaran - counters all foot archers (mainly used for suppressing Middle Eastern factions but is still suceptible to melee attacks with war elephants or javelin cavalry.
Berserkers - strong versus foot archers, counter this Norse unit with ranged cav.
