Additions

Changes

-General: A lot of mana costs have been reduced to be more in line with similar spells from the vanilla classes. Having low charge should actually feel like it's making your spells cheaper now, instead of just not-ridiculously-expensive. About the only ones not affected are the Eldritch utility spells, which are supposed to be fairly costly early in the game, and Impale, whose cost has gone up slightly.

-Tesseract: Now grants 10..66% Pull Resistance by default. Immobilize-bomb functionality moved to tier 1, with an immobilize duration of 4..6 seconds. Tiers 2 and 3 now reduce the cast time and mana cost by 25% each.

-Lucidity: Aura radius decreases with each rank in the skill (from 5 to 3.6 meters).

-Animus Blast: Tier 3 changed back to its old function (changes damage from a DoT to instant and enables charge generation).

-Fusion of Flesh: Increased ally-healing to 50%/75%/100%.

-Insanity: Charge generation is now instant, and scales from 4 to 8.2% per hit depending on the skill's rank.

Fixes

-Miasma: Fixed a bug causing 100% elemental effect chances.

Future

-Abyssal Gaze and Jagged Bones are due for particle effects that aren't copied or incredibly underwhelming.

-Wall of Flesh: Eventually I'll replace all the pink smoke with ground cracks or something, but since they're attached to the model itself and I know nothing about models, it'll be a completely new thing to learn before I can change it.

Known Bugs

-Carapace resets when you change equipment, including when you use the weapon swap.

Published v.3572

Additions

-Added Nether Assault: Use your tentacles to pull yourself to a target, smashing through enemies on your way and causing them to panic. Panicked enemies attack faster, but have reduced damage and critical damage. Each rank increases the pull range, damage, and panic intensity. Each tier reduces the mana cost by 20% and increases the panic duration by 5 seconds.

Changes

-General: All skills can now be mapped to the left-click slot.

-Charge Bar: Damage reduction returned to 25%.

-Void Barrage: Reduced missile range and collision size.

-Nether Phase: Cooldown returned to 2 seconds.

-Void Helix: Reduced missile range, increased minimum damage, and prettied up the projectile graphics.

-Abyssal Gaze: Minimum damage no longer scales with rank.

-Animus Blast: Reduced tier 2 bonus to 5 meter range/radius.

-Festering Aura: Reduced radius from 15 meters to 10. Rewrote tooltip to clarify how the skill works.

-Epidemic: Removed damage entirely. Increased blast radius to 5 meters. Debuff durations changed to 3..10 seconds. Rewrote tooltip to clarify how it works.

-Tentacle Lash: Reduced damage to 60..102% wDPS and added 2..5% bonus charge gain for each enemy hit. Tier 1 now reduces enemy vision range, tier 2 widens the lash arc to 180 degrees, and tier 3 adds a 48% chance to stun for 2 seconds.

-Impale: Moved to the level 21 skill slot. Damage amplify effect reduced to 0..35% over 4 seconds. Tier 1 increases range to 10 meters, tier 2 increases attack width by 50%, and tier 3 increases amplify duration to 7 seconds.

-Legion's Grasp: Consumes 15% charge per second.

-Insanity: Damage reduction reduced to 1..15%.

-Thrashing Tendrils: Reduced reflected missile damage to 50% wDPS.

-Carapace: Shield strength is now equal to 6..20 times your Vitality. Regeneration starts 4 seconds after you were last hit, and it takes 3..10 seconds to fully regenerate.

Published v.3364

Additions

-Added Insanity: New first-tier Flesh passive. Increases the bonuses you gain at high levels of charge, adding 3..17% more damage reduction and 2..30% more attack speed. You generate 4% charge per second while under attack.

Changes

-General: Removed a lot of 1/2-second and 3/4-second cooldowns from various spammable skills. Specifically, this affects Void Helix, Miasma, Animus Blast, Tentacle Lash, and Impale.

-Charge Bar: Damage reduction increased to 33%.

-Eldritch Skills: All Eldritch skills that inflict ice damage over time have been standardized to a 5 second duration. They're all effectively identical, but technically still separate effects, so they still stack with each other.

-Void Barrage: Removed the 2 extra missiles from tier 3 leaving just the cascade effect, which has been increased to 25% wDPS per missile. Slightly improved homing capabilities.

-Tesseract: Projectile range bonus changed to 0.8..5 meters.

-Implosion: Tier 1 slow increased to 2 seconds.

-Void Helix: Moved to the empty spot of the Eldritch tree.

-Nether Phase: Cooldown increased to 3 seconds below tier 1. Increased reflect chance to 58..100%.

-Lucidity: Reworked. Increases the bonuses you gain at low levels of charge, adding 3..17% more mana cost reduction and 2..30% more cast speed. You generate no charge whatsoever as long as there are no enemies nearby.

-Abyssal Gaze: Reworked. Added a mana cost, reduced charge cost to 25%, and allowed casting regardless of charge level. If you do not have enough charge, it deals half damage with a 64..92% chance to fear for 3 seconds. If you do have enough charge, it deals full damage, stuns instead of fearing, and refunds the mana cost. Tier bonuses reduce the charge cost to 20/16/14%.

-Miasma: Replaced blind chance with a guaranteed 15..29% movement slow. Reduced mana cost. Now inflicts poison and burning at rank 1, plus shock at tier 1, plus freeze at tier 2. All debuff durations increased to 3..4.4 seconds.

-Carrion Call: Swapped tiers 1 and 2 (armor shred at tier 1, slow at tier 2). Instead of 2.5% damage and attack speed, netherlings now gain 4% attack speed and armor per rank.

-Animus Blast: Moved to Netherguard's spot. Increased healing at lower ranks. Added a 3% max HP heal to give it a way to scale with your stats. Tier 3 has been changed to double the percent-based heal to 6%.

-Netherguard: Moved to Animus Blast's spot.

-Atrophy: Removed.

-Festering Aura: Moved to Atrophy's spot. Poison and freeze bonuses increased to 5..33%. Burn damage doubled. Shockbolts increased to 6 at rank 15.

-Epidemic: Turned the scaling on its head, making it a plague first and a damage boost second. A single rank of Epidemic now guarantees that elemental effects are spread to everything caught in the blast, with the effects lasting 4..7 seconds. The damage has been reduced to 7% wDPS per effect at rank 1, but increased to 35% wDPS per effect at rank 15.

-Tentacle Lash: Removed interrupt chance. Increased debuff duration to 3..6 seconds.

-Fusion of Flesh: Stats are back to 10 stacks, but they now last forever (or until you die or log out).

-Impale: Impale now increases all damage taken instead of reducing armor.

-Jagged Bones: Swapped tiers 1 and 2.

-Thrashing Tendrils: Moved to Black Ichor's spot. Now grants dodge chance instead of attack speed.

-Black Ichor: Moved to Festering Aura's spot.

-Carapace: Doubled regeneration rate.

Fixes

-Carrion Call: Fixed a bug that would randomly allow you to explode invisible, friendly, or already-exploded corpses.

Future

-Laser beams and hookshots!

Published v.3229

Additions

Changes

-Miasma: Slightly reduced the size of the tier 3 bonus pools.

-Plague Pustule: Pustule mines now properly benefit from your Focus. Moved the increased blast radius up to tier 3, bumping the other two tiers down (longer cloud at tier 1, mines at tier 2).

Fixes

Future

-Jagged Bones is going to get a particle effect that isn't completely underwhelming. Probably a better icon, too.

-Wall of Flesh: Eventually I'll replace all the pink smoke with ground cracks or something, but since they're attached to the model itself and I know nothing about models, it'll be a completely new thing to learn before I can change it.

Additions

Changes

-Miasma: Blinds. Again.

Fixes

-Attempting to fix the random crashing related to Black Ichor. I suspect it was coming from the health regeneration, which has been removed. I'll come back to the skill in the future if it needs a little boost to make up for that loss.

Future

-Wall of Flesh: Eventually I'll replace all the pink smoke with ground cracks or something, but since they're attached to the model itself and I know nothing about models, it'll be a completely new thing to learn before I can change it.

Known Bugs

-Tier 3 Plague Pustules do not benefit from Focus.

Update: 27 Jul, 2013 @ 10:34pm

Published v.3168

Additions

Changes

-General: Increased the base cast time on Nether Phase and Carrion Call. This gives Nether Phase that split-second of invulnerability again, and Carrion Call was just casting way faster than I ever wanted it to.

-Tesseract: Movement speed reduced to 5..12%.

-Miasma: Removed Blind.

-Animus Blast: Healing reduced by 25%. Switched places with Plague Pustule.

-Festering Bulwark: Reworked. This skill is now a Flesh passive called Black Ichor, which grants a small amount of health regeneration and causes any health damage you take to be countered with a cone-shaped spray of tainted blood. The cooldown and duration have been decreased, and the blind chance has been replaced with a guaranteed vision reduction (50..66%). Each rank increases the regeneration and decreases the cooldown. At rank 11, the cooldown disappears and the vision reduction and duration begin improving instead.

-Fusion of Flesh: Healing reduced by 33%. Cooldown reduced to 12..5 seconds. Now only stacks 5 times but each stack is twice as strong, so you reach the same maximum strength faster. Tier 1 splash damage bonus is now 50% at all ranks.

-Wall of Flesh: Minor rework. Moved to Jagged Bones' spot. Cooldown reduced to 8 seconds, mana cost increased, and tentacles now gain 3% damage reduction per rank instead of 5% armor. The wall also inherits a copy of your charge bonuses. Tier 2 now allows a second wall.

-Jagged Bones: Reworked. Moved to the 5th tier slot. Now places a 5-second buff on you that grants a massive increase to your armor and damages enemies that attack you within melee range. Each rank increases the damage and armor bonus. Tier 1 causes the counterattacks to generate charge, Tier 2 increases the duration to 7 seconds, and Tier 3 allows the counterattacks to convey your life and mana steal effects.

-Atrophy: Moved to the Plague tree.

-Thrashing Tendrils: Moved to Atrophy's spot. Missile deflection increased to 8..50% and damage increased to 100% wDPS, but the missile deflection is now only active while you are attacking.

Fixes

Future

-Wall of Flesh: Eventually I'll replace all the pink smoke with ground cracks or something, but since they're attached to the model itself and I know nothing about models, it'll be a completely new thing to learn before I can change it.

Known Bugs

-Characters using Carrion Call or Wall of Flesh occasionally experience a crash-to-desktop when traveling to a new map. This does not cause any loss of progress.

-Tier 3 Plague Pustules do not benefit from Focus.

-Carapace resets when you swap any of your equipment. This includes your weapons, which means it resets on weapon swaps.

Published v.2986

Additions

Changes

-Void Helix: Added a 30..72% chance to freeze for 3 seconds. Reduced minimum damage slightly and cut knockback in half.

-Lucidity: Now increases charge decay by 0.4% per second, per rank, maxing out at +6% charge lost per second (AKA 2.5x faster than normal).

-Miasma: Reduced damage by 14% and increased mana cost by 7%.

-Fusion of Flesh: Healing compressed into 1 second, instead of 1.5.

-Atrophy: Now only affects physical damage.

Fixes

-Carrion Call: Properly displays Netherling attack damage at rank 1.

Published v.2971

Additions

Changes

-Charge Bar: Reworked a bit, removing the knockback resistance and making the "mage vs melee" a bit more obvious. At zero charge, you gain 33% reduced mana costs and 20% increased cast speed, which gradually transforms into 20% attack speed and 25% damage reduction at full charge. All mana costs have been increased by 50%, which combined with the mana cost reduction means everything has the exact same costs as before. This just makes the charge bar tooltip more intuitive.

Since these charge bar changes don't get applied to existing nethermancers, but the mana cost changes do, I've built an extra function into that Regenerate Carapace skill you all have. Just cast it once and your charge bar bonuses will be instantly and permanently updated to the newest version, fixing your mana costs in the process.

-Tesseract: Removed the slow resistance. Rescaled the movespeed bonus to 2..16%, and the projectile range bonus to 1..4 meters. Changed the 3..5 second stun to a 4..6 second immobilize. Reduced mana cost and cooldown by 20%.

-Implosion: Bumped the 99% slow down to Tier 1. Tier 2 now grants the whole vortex (not just the center) a 20% chance to freeze for 5 seconds, and Tier 3 improves that to a 40% chance to freeze for 6 seconds.

-Miasma: Reworked. Pools last 5 seconds at all ranks and deal poison damage over time, with a chance to randomly inflict poison, freeze, or blindness. Each rank increases the chance and durations of all the debuffs. Tier 1 adds shock to the mix, Tier 2 adds burning, and Tier 3 is the cascading effect.

-Carrion Call: Told the netherling larva to shut up.

-Epidemic: Reduced Weapon DPS to 14..28% and changed it back to being an on-hit effect. The old version was completely insane when combined with the new Miasma, and I think requiring an attack to trigger it makes it a little more interesting. This method also allows Epidemic to trigger even if a pet or ally gets the killing blow. Specifically, Epidemic conveys a 10-second invisible buff that causes the enemy to explode on death, so anything that dies within 10 seconds of a weapon strike will explode, no matter what actually kills them. Void Barrage and Miasma don't do this, enemies have to die from that specific spell for their cascades to trigger.

-Fusion of Flesh: Reworked. The healing is about 50% higher and allies get 33% of it by default, the cooldown is a bit longer, and the lifesteal has been replaced with a stacking bonus to your maximum health and knockback resistance, which lasts for 5 minutes or until you die. Each rank increases the healing and stat bonuses, and reduces the cooldown. Tier 1 adds cleaving damage to the stacking buff, Tier 2 heals nearby allies for 66% of what you get, and Tier 3 heals them for the full amount.

I've still been hearing a lot about how much sustain the Flesh tree has, and I wanted to tone that down a bit while also giving the class its own unique survival mechanism. Namely, and simply, being a gigantic chunk. A walking goddamn mountain of hitpoints that just doesn't give a crap if it takes a few hits. Nethermancers don't steal life or spam forcefields, they alter their body, mutating and regenerating it, turning themselves into a hulking monstrosity that simply doesn't care about pain anymore.

Since Fusion's overal health regeneration is now capped by the cooldown, and since it's a burst heal on a cooldown, it's better saved for emergencies than trying to rely on it as your primary source of health regeneration. Life steal is still very good at sustained healing, we have tons of attack speed and Legion's Grasp conveys life and mana steal to everything it hits. If you're looking to stay in the fight instead of ducking in and out, you might want to take Grasp as your charge dump instead of Fusion. Nethermancers who are avoiding hits in the first place don't really need the massive health increase and can get by on Carapace alone or a single rank in Fusion.

-Carapace: Regeneration rate halved.

Fixes

-Tesseract, Implosion, and Legion's Grasp now properly benefit from increased cast speed. Legion's Grasp doesn't cost any extra charge, but cast speed makes it tick faster.
