Settings and their files
As of version 0.9.4 Witch It makes use of Unreal Engine 4.20 and supports DirectX 10 as well as 11.

The in-game menu changes the following plain-text files which can be edited without launching the game:
  • %localappdata%\WitchIt\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini
  • %localappdata%\WitchIt\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Engine.ini
To do so we highly recommend using a powerful text editor like Notepad++.

In GameUserSettings you find the following section with values that can be set to [0,1,2,3] for [low, medium, high, epic] visual effects:
[ScalabilityGroups] sg.ViewDistanceQuality=3 sg.AntiAliasingQuality=3 sg.PostProcessQuality=3 sg.TextureQuality=3 sg.EffectsQuality=3 sg.FoliageQuality=0 sg.ShadowQuality=3

In addition GameUserSettings contains another section that lets you set a numerical framerate limit and lets you set V-Sync to False or True.
[/script/engine.gameusersettings] FrameRateLimit=0.000000 bUseVSync=False

In Engine.ini you find the following section which applies an inverse exponent to the display colour:
[/script/engine.gameengine] DisplayGamma=1.000000

Unfortunately there are some settings that are saved in %AppDataLocal%\Local\WitchIt\Saved\SaveGames which is not a plain-text file. It contains values for Motion Blur and Field Of View for example.

Appendix: There is no in-game setting to change "sg.FoliageQuality" and it is unknown if changing its value has any effect.
Settings and their effects
Resolution
List with arbitrary values between 800x600 up to individual desktop resolution.
Determines horizontal and vertical image dimensions while Window Mode "Fullscreen" or "Windowed" is active.

Window Mode
Toggles between Fullscreen, Borderless Fullscreen, Windowed.

Enabled V-Sync
Prevents image tearing and limits framerate to monitor's. Works in fullscreen mode only.

Frame rate Limit
Sets upper limit for framerate.

Gamma
Changes brightness values with an inverse exponent between 1.0 and 3.0.

Field of View
Value range from 50 to 120 which affects how much of your surrounding is rendered.

Motion blur
Value range from 0 to 1.0 which blurs image during camera motion (requires Post Processing at least at "medium")..

Resolution Scale
Multiplies resolution with a factor between 50% and 100%.

Antialiasing
Changes colours for smoother appearance of edges.

View Distance
Probably intended to change level of detail but shows no effect in Witch It.

Shadows
Increases shadow resolution and lowers culling distance.

Post Processing
Enables motion blur and adds bloom as well as lense flares.

Visual Effects
Adds particles/sprites and adds snow layer and snow deformation.

Textures
Probably intended to use mipmaps but shows no effect in Witch It.

Indeed it is obsolete, now that you changed it to a potentionaly big performance impact, that's what I was talking about. Good luck with the guide and thanks for testing it for people that aren't tech savvy.

Again, in this scenario making a change to the resolution setting had no effect on framerate. But this discussion is getting obsolete since the guide is under maintenance to become more useful for deeper customization.

Understandable, I was just correting your statement where you said resolution does not affect performance, because it does. And if the scenario is so ''specific'' then what's the point in specifying the framerates you got with the specific setup? Shouldn't you just say something like: the resolution did not affect performance much for me, but if you experience slowdowns you should lower it.

I meant no harm, just trying to help.

Fresh Flesh, the provided values were taken from this specific test and you may find the same results if you run it too. I am not referring to any game but a given map in Witch It.

Resolution affects performance a lot, it is a big difference if you play games at 1920x1080, or for example at 1280x720. If you have a slower PC then difference could be 10+fps. Look it up.
