Introduction
Hey everyone! You may have noticed some or all of these by your own by now. But I'm writing this guide anyways for the new players. Some sections are still work in progress, I will update the guide if I encounter new things and features as the game gets patched. Note that this guide is best viewed on the browser, because the steam client somewhat lags a bit while scrolling. Please do give feedback!
Gameplay Basics
  • Dodge Roll: The best ability in the game that helps you in surviving. You can slip past enemies who are blocking your way or dodge almost all of the attacks with ease or escape a room with a small opening in the wall. Remember that you can also roll while in mid air!

  • Stomp: When you are airborne or falling down, press the button for crouching and jump button, to launch a devastating ground breaking attack which may instantly kill an enemy depending on your strength level and stuns those who are still alive. Can also be used when falling from heights to avoid getting stunned. Look out for the spikes though! ouch! (there's an achievement for it btw :3)

  • Next Page: The game doesn't tell you how to go to the next page or previous page while viewing the upgrade list at The Collector, the keys are Page Up and Page Down respectively

    New UI with key prompts.
Tips and Tricks Part I
  • Take it Slow: Isolate a target and take 'em out individually and then focus on the next one, don't risk your life just to kill a group in one heavy strike until you get familiar with the behavior of enemies and gameplay, because the game punishes you severely for small mistakes, play it safe!

Prioritize in taking down enemies that can attack you through walls such as Grenadiers, etc. first.

  • Ambush: Double jump your butt out of there or roll away instead of holding your ground preparing to strike them all in one blow, DON'T RISK IT! There is a high chance that you will be banged by some enemy you aren't aware of. Do the same if you are having trouble with an elite guy, but he can teleport wherever you go if you reduced his health to half and also summons his minions along with him. Use equipment and delay them, Ice Grenade is a life saver in these situations.

  • Someone there?: See some tough enemies infront of you but they didn't see you yet? Use your equipment or bow and arrow and reduce their health down. Note that the Phazers tend to launch surprise attacks on you even though they haven't seen you.

  • Instinct: See an exclamation mark above enemy's head? Its time to roll or block the attack with the shield, timing is everything. Use roll to get behind an enemy and slash 'em up real good.

  • Breach dem doors: Use the doors to your advantage as they can stun the enemies that are on the other side, even large groups as well after which you can take 'em down in one big strike. Careful around the Grenadiers though, they become aware of you when close enough and shoot a projectile through doors, walls or floors!

  • Worst trap ever!: In an intense combat while maneuvering enemy's attacks, you might end up holding onto the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chain and lose health or even die in the process, they're the worst death traps in the game than the most obvious traps.

  • Hidden Secrets: Small rocks with a bluish spiral insignia. Break it down and you might find some gold or food. If its below the ground then it summons a portal to a challenge area. It can't be noticed unless you go really close to it, illuminated by the light emitting from your umm... head? Keep an eye for those rocks.

  • Never underestimate common enemies: Look out for the archers. They seem so easy to kill and dodge the attacks just by crouching down but when in groups, him and the other common enemies such as Grenadiers and Zombies are a real pain in the butt. They go farther away (except for the Zombie) and gain more advantage over you while you are trying to fend off enemies that are melee based. Just never underestimate these basterds.

  • Friendly Biters: The Biter Swarm equipment is probably the only one without a level unlike the other equipment. Not only they kill your enemies but also distract them if the enemies are chasing you, works well against Phazors, Slashers, etc. Their damage level increases with the +1 Skill scroll and you can use it in an entire playthrough, without any bother to swap for other equipment because of low damage level. Because other equipment has fixed damage level regardless of your Skill level. You're really lucky if you found one in the early stages.

  • Crouch Shot: The bows are the only weapons which can be shot while crouched. The rest of the weapons when used while crouched will only make you stand up and become vulnerable to arrows or grappling hooks. They also auto aim enemies now so you can take care of flying enemies very easily.

  • Runes: Ever saw some areas that are too far to reach or there seems to be no other way to get there? And did you notice some things that you can 'Tickle' or 'Rub'? To activate them you need 'Runes' and they take you to inaccessible areas, there are four of them at the moment and once you get it, it's yours permanently. You can get these runes by defeating special elites in game.

    • Vine Rune is in The Promenade of the Condemned
    • Teleportation Rune is in The Old Sewers
    • Belier's Rune is in The Ossuary
    • Spider's Rune is in The Slumbering Sanctuary
    • Challenger Rune is in the Black Bridge

Get them as soon as possible and you can visit different biomes and inaccessible areas.

  • Spendthrift: Don't be scared to spend your gold, because you will die anyways sooner or later and lose everything, but investing it in upgrades will increase your survivability long enough and get familiar with higher floors.

  • Unlocking: Invest your dead cells mostly in unlocking Health Potions and Gold Recovery upgrades and the rest of it for other smaller upgrades and unlocks. If you completely maxed them out then you could have a higher chance to go to the end, and roam higher floors with ease.

  • Before you unlock: Don't just blindly invest in unlocking newer weapons or equipment as soon as you get the blueprint because they only decrease the chance of spawning your favorite loadout and you may probably regret unlocking it, it may not be your kind of weapon. Read wiki before you unlock them. It doesn't mean you shouldn't try other weapons or equipment. Unlock newer weapons once you get familiar with all the weapons that you currently have, that way you can experiment and get to know about all of the available weapons in an order, try everything to see what works best for you.

                                                                             (Sauce)
Tips and Tricks Part II
  • What lies beneath?: One of the common mistakes everyone makes: Directly jumping down without any idea. The screen is zoomed in onto your player and somewhat hides the other platforms and enemies. Slowly climb down using the chains/pipes to go down and scan for enemies, especially at higher floors. Dem Slashers will slice you up good before you even know it.

  • Spam Attacks: Be extra careful when you are using bows, heavy weapons or spells such as Broad Sword or Lightning Bolt for example, you only end up getting hit pretty hard by other enemies when they are on either side of your position, you cannot roll, jump or crouch in such state. BUT, you can divert those delayed attacks to the other side by pressing the arrow keys.

  • Cursed Chests: These chests drop 3 good items every time you open it but alas you will enrage the gods and you'll be cursed. Take a small hit and you're dead meat, kill 10 enemies carefully and you can lift the curse. So open these only if you encounter them at the beginning levels such as Prisoner Cells or The Promenade of the Condemned. DO NOT open it on higher levels, it's just a death wish and you will probably have a better loadout than it offers.

                                                 Yeah...very tempting isn't it?

  • YOLO: Assign this mutation 'Ygdar Orus Li Ox' or YOLO in short. It can save you in boss fights and when you get ambushed. Upon activation, you freeze all nearby enemies. Won't work if you're cursed. Make sure you get it after first floor because it's locked later on dunno why.

  • Amulets: Amulets are dropped only by elites. There are some amulets having special properties with a very low drop rate. These amulets have no fixed names in general and seem to be random. But you could identify from the special properties as listed below:

    • Make you invisible after 5 seconds without attacking. Your next strike while still being invisible inflicts +150% damage. Deactivates initiating a cutscene, acquiring scroll, etc.
    • Poison no longer affects you. Sewers, here we come (Poison heals you! But only in sewers)
    • Any enemy that touches you is frozen
    • Super Mario Mode: Jumping on an enemy's head stuns it
    • Damage taken reduced by 30% + a random extra property
    • You can jump four times in the air (Two bonus jumps)
    • Every step you take burns the ground for 3 seconds

  • Toxic Pools: While in the sewers, if you are about to fall in a pool of toxic waste, just roll and jump away so that you won't take any damage. Also you won't be poisoned if you jumped away as soon as you made contact with the pool without rolling.

  • Swarm: If you have a lots of flying enemies in your way (especially in Ramparts), try to lure them in a direction and use an equipment such as Grenades to take them all out at once. Magnetic Grenades can kill all of them even through walls if placed close enough. Bows and Throwing Knives can auto aim these foes.

  • Defy gravity: You can perform your weapon combo in mid air without falling down (bows too)

  • Booby Traps: Although the occurrence is very rare, some of the normal chests might be booby trapped. They spawn ridiculous number of flying enemies and 3+ zombies. So don't relax when you are opening a chest, but get ready to roll!

  • Free on Unlock: You can get a weapon or equipment for free when you unlock it from the Collector. Its level is based on the floor you're going to. You can leave it at 1 cell if you are planning to get in another playthrough.

  • Double Damage: Some weapons have special stat called Double Damage and when you couple that with your levels, the total damage grows leaps and bounds that you could one hit kill most of the enemies.

However do keep in mind that their attack damage is doubled on YOU as well! It's represented by 2x with a skull icon on top your head. Even more rarely, you can also find a 4x Damage stat on a random weapon but you will take 2x damage.

  • Health Regain: When an enemy hits you, a lot of health is depleted (depending on the damage stat and floor), don't run away but hit/kill him and rush towards others as fast as you can, so that you can regain most of the lost health. Don't even try to risk it in an ambush though!

  • Pole Weapons: War Spear or Impaler. Keep either one as a main weapon and you can just sweep through the floors with ease, just keep some distance between you and your enemies and spam that attack button. Look out for the flying enemies though, it doesn't seem to hit them if they are a bit above or below the hit range.

War Spear works so damn well against elites because the critical attack chance is higher if the spear goes through multiple enemies at once (like his minions) as shown below.

Blueprint: War Spear by Mechanical Spider (Prison Depth) and Impaler is dropped by The Incomplete One (Black Bridge)

  • Sitting Ducks: Use Ice Grenades on enemies that are roaming in a pool of water. The water is still frozen for a longer period than the enemies making them encumbered, they can't even turn the other direction. It's represented by a lock symbol above their heads.

Note that Fire Brands or Fire Grenades wont work here unless they hit the enemy directly, they won't get burned though.

  • Mist: Many dark creatures that lurk in the mist are almost invisible, you could look for the slight shimmering when they are moving, count how many are there and plan your attack. Estimate the size of the shimmering enemies: The bigger it is then it might be a Slasher or a Catcher, smaller ones are maybe Zombie or Thorny. You could immediately recognize the Mechanical Spider as it spawns craploads of flying enemies towards you.

    While in Graveyard, AVOID line of sight against shimmering enemies even if there is a gap between you and enemies. A Catcher once grappled me towards him from so far away and I got gangbanged by both Slasher and the Catcher inside the mist ;-;

  • Don't use: Sandals and Whips, just don't, unless you maxed out their damage levels.
Loadouts
Some of the great loadouts I found in my playthroughs, of course everyone has their own style, but do try these and see the results!
  • Broad Sword (175% bonus damage to frozen targets) and Fire Brand (Drops a bomb for every 2~3 throws) + Ice Grenade (Slows enemies nearby if a foe dies) and Meat Grinder (100% damage to burning enemies and enemies explode inflicting 50 damage)

  • Nut Cracker (2x Damage) and Biter Swarm (Poison cloud upon death) + Magnetic Grenade (Slow)

  • Impaler (Throws a Grenade) and Frantic Sword (Throws a Grenade) + Ice Grenade (Slow) and Meat Grinder (+1 Strength + 30% damage on bleeding target + Enemies burn after death)

  • War Spear (2x Damage) and Critical Bow + Knife Storm and Biter Swarm

  • War Spear (+25% dmg on stunned target) + Quick Bow (+20% critical dmg) and Horizontal Turret (Shots pierce first target and nearby victims freeze for 1.8s after death) + Ceiling Turret (+100% damage on frozen victims and enemies release toxic could after death)

  • Wrenching Whip and any kind of Bow
Even if you have the above without any special powers, they still pack a punch!
You could also experiment with an equipment or weapon from other loadouts mentioned above.

Suggestions from comments:
  • Impaler + Frost Blast + Fire Grenade + Ivy Grenade
  • Complete Fire set/ Ice set/ Poison Cloud set
  • Fire set w/ oil drop
  • Blood Sword + Frost Blast + Magnetic Grenade + Cluster Grenade
  • Assassin's Dagger (175% Atk) + Grappling Hook (Fire) + Phaser (Oil)
  • Frantic Sword (4x Dmg, 100% poison dmg) + Phaser (poisons)
  • Assault shield + Infantry bow + Toxic cloud when rolling amulet + Toxic Cloud + Knife storm (100% damage on Bleeding target, propagating bleed if one dies) (For Watcher)
Boss Achievements (WIP)
Even though you have some good loadouts that helped you clear the floors with ease, it may not be good against the Keepers you encounter. Keepers are the four bosses in the game at the moment: The Incomplete One at The Black Bridge, The Watcher at The Insufferable Crypt, The Assassin at The Clock Room and The Hand of the King at The Castle.

The Incomplete One:
Perhaps the easiest boss in the entire game.

List of all possible paths:
  • Prisoner's Cells > Promenade of The Condemned > Ramparts > Black Bridge
  • Prisoner's Cells > Toxic Sewers > The Ramparts > Black Bridge
  • Prisoner's Cells > Promenade of The Condemned > Ossuary > Black Bridge
  • Prisoner's Cells > Promenade of The Condemned > Prison Depths > Black Bridge

Bypass: Follow the paths of The Watcher boss below.

    Attack Patterns:

    • Tends to launch a delayed but powerful attack if near
    • Activates a barrier periodically when near
    • Activates a repelling barrier and screams if you are hurting it too much
    • Pounces on you and deals heavy damage if you are too far (after half health)
    • Launches a wide area attack if afar (If you don't want it to perform this, just stay near so that it will keep repeating the delayed attacks on you)
    • The lower it's health, the higher the chance for it to use above attacks repeatedly

Loadout used: Impaler (2x Damage) and Fire Brand + Ice Grenade and Bear Trap. I got the "Steam Rolled" achievement using this loadout. When I got this achievement, mutations feature wasn't present yet. This boss is the easiest of the three for this achievement.

    Tips for the achievement:
    • Use Ice grenades when he corners you and roll past.
    • Bear Traps can also be used for trapping, but it's main purpose is to stop him from pouncing on you.
    • Drain his health from afar using Fire Brands.
    • And finally thanks to 2x damage, I finished him off pretty quickly with the Impaler.
    • When he activates red barrier around him, don't try to slip past as it hurts you.

The Watcher:

List of all possible paths:
  • Prisoner's Cells > Toxic Sewers > Old Sewers > Insufferable Crypt
  • Prisoner's Cells > Toxic Sewers > The Ramparts > Insufferable Crypt (if 3 boss cells are active)
  • Prisoner's Cells > Promenade of The Condemned > Ramparts > Insufferable Crypt (3 boss cells)

Bypass: Follow all the paths mentioned for The Incomplete One boss.

    Attack Patterns:

    • Tackles you all of a sudden and maneuvers around the room (mid air roll is effective)
    • Shoots green crap all over the place
    • Once you hurt it enough, it uses three tentacles which will emerge from below.
    • After all tentacles are taken care of, it will start it's initial attack pattern but with more speed.
    • There are 4 stages in this fight:
Each stage consists of a direct battle with the Watcher and the tentacle fight.
The only difference between stages that it will be attacking you at higher speeds.
    • From stage 2 onward, the tentacles that are far away from you, starts hurling itself towards you at a faster speed, usually from the left.

Loadout used: Still figuring this one out...
The loadout I used to beat it was: War Spear (2x dmg) + Quick Bow (25% dmg) + Horizontal Turret (Shots pierce through first target and enemies freeze 1.8s after death) + Death Orb with Mutations: YOLO, 2x Ranged ammo and 50% less skill countdown.

So far I've found fire, oil weapons and equipment, bear traps, assault shield, horizontal turret and swarm are good for the tentacle fight. Whips and Critical bow are good against The Watcher

Some of the amulets that really help you survive in this battle (especially the tentacle fight):
    • 4 mid air jumps
    • Rolling burns the ground for 3 seconds
    • Rolling drops a bomb
    • YOLO (It's a mutation now)

The Assassin:

List of all possible paths:
  • The Black Bridge > Fog Fjord > Clock tower > Clock Room
  • The Black Bridge > Fog Fjord > Forgotten Sepulchre > Clock Room
  • The Black Bridge > Slumbering Sanctuary > Clock Tower > Clock Room
  • The Black Bridge > Slumbering Sanctuary > Forgotten Sepulchre > Clock Room
  • The Insufferable Crypt > Slumbering Sanctuary > Clock Tower > Clock Room
  • The Insufferable Crypt > Slumbering Sanctuary > Forgotten Sepulchre > Clock Room
  • The Insufferable Crypt > Graveyard > Forgotten Sepulchre > Clock Room

    Attack Patterns:

    • Normal sword attacks
    • Shuriken attacks
    • Uses grappling hook which is very similar to that of The Catcher but fast
    • Directional dodge
    • After dealing enough damage, swords start falling from above, can be dodged by rolling

Loadout used: Still figuring out this one...
The loadout I used to beat it was: Meat Skewer + Assassin's Dagger and Freeze Grenade + Corrupted Power with Mutations: YOLO, 2x Ranged ammo and 50% less skill countdown.

She is very susceptible to freezing attacks so if you find any primary weapons with increased damage over frozen enemies then there is a chance that you can kill her without taking any hits. I froze her and used Corrupted Power to deal even more damage, but it's very risky.

Assassin's Dagger is quite useful for ranged attack as you can dodge her grappling hook quicker than using some bow or whip or any heavy weapons. Ice bow works quite well too but not recommended.

Hand of the King

List of all possible paths: You will encounter him at the end of the game after The Assassin.
  • Clock Room > Castle > Throne Room

    Attack Patterns:

    • Attacks with his spear when up close and can charge forward
    • Creates a shockwave by pounding the ground with his fist
    • Throws a lotta bombs at you
    • Becareful when he charges onto you, may fall into the pits with spikes
    • 3x Shocker flags drop below, destroy them as soon as they fall or get ready to take heavy dmg
    • Summons elites, he is invincible at this time till you defeat them
    • Heavy ground pound at the end of the match which produces a devastating shockwave
    • Will enter defensive stance when you shoot arrows
    • He does get affected by freezing/stun/slow but recovers faster before you can land an attack

Loadout used: Didn't even beat him yet but seems like he is very susceptible to weapons/equipment that produce poison clouds, oil and fire as he continuously ignores them and moves forward.
Conclusion
Sometimes even though you are being careful, may feel like everything is under your control, things get ugly all of a sudden and you just die. It's frustrating, but remember that death is a part of this game and make dying a habit! It's really fun playing again right from the start, learning from your mistakes in your previous playthroughs and eventually reaching the end level, where sadly you die again lol. The path you choose for your journey is actually the main part rather than what's gonna happen at the end.

The most important part? Brutality, Tactics, or Survival?
Don't invest all your points across the board,
Focus on the items you have , and pick one to maximize and scale up for the end game EARLY.

Another build that I was very successful with: Nutcracker (2x damage on stun, freeze, root) + Frost Blast. Most enemies were easily two-shotted.

For the watcher, I found the owl that shoot arrow also very effective against the boss

the boomerang is an absolute amazing weapon. Throw it behind an enemy and as long as you don't jump it'll hit him until he dies
