Introduction
This guide aims to help you unlock 100% of achievements in Herald: An Interactive Period Drama.

I've arranged the achievements in chronological order to make it harder to miss any when you're going through the game. If you're stuck on a specific achievement, use Ctrl/Cmd+F to search for its name.
A Note on Saving
Note that Herald does not allow manual saving.

Instead, the game autosaves at checkpoints throughout the game, wtih each autosave overwriting the previous one. Keep this in mind if you need to take a break during the game, so you don't have to redo sections you've already done.

The lack of manual saving also makes it more difficult to use save points to get mutually exclusive achievements in one playthrough. Because of this, and because the game is fairly short, I would recommend just doing multiple playthroughs to get all the achievements. This is simpler and also lets you try out more of the less important dialogue choices. If you want to complete the game efficiently, the next section of the guide will show you how to get all the achievements in the minimum number of playthroughs.
Suggested Playthroughs
As some of the achievements are mutually exclusive, you will need to complete at least three playthroughs to unlock all of them.

If you want to complete the game as quickly as possible without fussing over the achievements, I've provided an example of a good way to distribute the achievements over three playthroughs. The achievements are grouped thematically so you can stick to a particular personality each playthrough.

Each achievement will be marked with the corresponding playthrough number throughout the guide so you can follow along easily.

I-1: His Lordship's Vessel Herald
[1] Unabashed Moralist

Disagree with the captain.

In the first scene on the ship, tell Captain Hendriksz he shouldn't read the letter for Senator Morton.

[1] A listening ear

Overhear Ian's prayer.

After witnessing the argument between Brunswick and Ian, go down the Crew Quarters and stay to listen to Ian's prayer.
I-3: Stolen Goods
[1] Et tu, Brute?

Betray Caleb's trust.

When Caleb makes you look for the missing gun, tell the captain about it instead of keeping it secret.

[1] Locked and loaded

Help Ludlow get his way.

After getting caught with Ludlow and the gun, convince Caleb or the captain that Ludlow has the right to keep the gun.

[2] Hot-tempered

Lose your cool at Caleb.

(Only possible if you didn't tell the captain about the missing gun.) After getting caught with Ludlow and the gun, tell Caleb to bugger off.

[3] Cutting edge

Negotiate a less deadly compromise.

After getting caught with Ludlow and the gun, convince Caleb or the captain to let Ludlow keep a knife instead of a gun.
I-5: Ludlow's Discovery
[1] Goody two-shoes

Refuse to accept something stolen.

When Ludlow offers you some of Undra's candy, ask him if it was stolen, then say you don't like eating stolen food. The achievement will NOT unlock if you just say you don't want any.

[1] Skilled negotiator

Prevent a terrible tragedy.

Stop Ian from committing suicide. Tell him you understand what he's going through, and that he has to be strong.

[2] Provocateur

Encourage a terrible tragedy.

Goad Ian into committing suicide. Keep daring him to jump until he does it.

[3] Wasted potential

Fail to prevent a terrible tragedy.

Fail to stop Ian from committing suicide. Pick any options other than those given in Skilled Negotiator and Provocateur.
II-2: The Duties of a Steward
[2] Saline injection

Go overboard serving the senator.

When serving lunch to Tabatha and Senator Morton, pour a lot of salt on the senator's food.

[2] What mad discourtesy! (Part 1)

Ruin the senator's meal.

When serving lunch to Tabatha and Senator Morton, pour a lot of salt on the senator's food. The achievement won't unlock just yet; see Part 2 later in the guide for the rest of the steps.

[1] Samaritan

Deliver food to the brig.

(Only possible if Ian survived Book I.) When delivering lunch to Brunswick and Dr. Gehrig, Brunswick will request that you bring his lunch to Ian in the brig. Do so before returning to the galley.

[3] A bridge too far

Read Ian's letter to Brunswick.

(Only possible if Ian died in Book I.) When delivering lunch to Brunswick and Dr. Gehrig, tell Brunswick the truth about Ian and read the letter in his coat pocket.
II-3: Something's Cooking
[1] Caleb's favourite grub

Make Caleb's favourite food.

When making the stew with Daniel, put in potatoes and cured meat. The achievement will unlock later during the meal, when Caleb comments on the food.

[1] Requiem for a loved one

Learn about Daniel's past.

When talking with Daniel after making the stew, get him to tell you about his lost lover.
II-4: The Art of Blending In
[1] Part of the decor

Successfully blend into the background while serving tea.

When serving tea to Captain Hendriksz and Senator Morton in the captain's cabin, have your service meet with the senator's approval. Be as silent and quick as possible.

[2] What mad discourtesy! (Part 2)

Be as rude as possible to Senator Morton.

When the senator brings up the salt debacle from earlier, change the subject to Tabatha's looks. Then when he complains that you almost poisoned him, try to make him even more angry.
II-5: The Curse of the Herald
[1] Silent observer

Don't interrupt a performance.

When you find Tabatha playing the piano, quietly listen to the rest of her performance instead of interrupting.
II-6: Monster in the Galley
[1] Little monster

Discover the truth of the monster in galley.

When Ludlow wakes you up to investigate the galley, follow the trail to the stowaway in the cargo hold. This should happen as part of the story without you needing to do anything special.
II-7: Tête-à-Tête
[2] Wise♥♥♥♥♥

Remind Undra about his own pet peeve.

In the morning after finding the stowaway, tell Undra that a ship doesn't have a "kitchen".
II-8: Tempest
[1] Sticky fingers

Discover some stolen goods.

During the storm, enter Ludlow's cabin and examine the laudanum bottles on his desk.

[1] Medic

Help save a patient.

During the storm, enter Brunswick's cabin and help Dr. Gehrig treat Brunswick's wounds. To succeed, hand Gehrig the correct tools and do exactly as he says.

Both of the above achievements must be completed BEFORE entering Caleb's workshop!

[1] Spilling the beans

Let a secret be revealed.

After walking in on Caleb and Ludlow arguing during the storm, get Ludlow to just tell Caleb the truth about the stowaway.

[2] No words to waste

Quickly end an unnecessary quarrel.

After walking in on Caleb and Ludlow arguing during the storm, insist that there's no time and end the fight as quickly as possible.
II-9: Crime and Punishment
[1] True diplomat

Successfully prevent a punishment.

Stop Senator Morton from flogging Daniel. Ask the senator what he would do if he had lost a love.

[2] Thrown to the wolves

Encourage a punishment.

Agree that Senator Morton should flog Daniel and keep encouraging him to do so.

[3] In vain

Fail to prevent a punishment.

Fail to stop Senator Morton from flogging Daniel. Pick any options other than those given in True Diplomat and Thrown to the Wolves.

Great guide, thank you for putting it together.

I failed numerous attempts to achieve "Part of the decor." Eventually, instead of being quick I rummaged through the cabinet and drawer (delayed twice). After the second delay dialog completed the achievement triggered. Perhaps something change with its requirements?
