... Or at least we should, but first, you gotta know where you came from.


Crazy Taxi was originally released in arcades back in late 1990's, and found it's way into all sorts of other places too.

Not only did the Crazy Drivin' and other fun gameplay mechanics make it a fan-favorite, but the Soundtrack also made it AMAZING, right?

It featured The Offspring and Bad Religion, two well-known punk / rock bands, as the main focus of the soundtrack, and man what a great fit! It's almost synonomous with the Crazy Taxi series!


Alas, licensed musics (and voices) only last so long, and they replaced most of the music in the Steam version with some stuff that sounds just plain blah and unfitting.

Sure, it's some kind of rock, but it doesn't sound right. My personal opinion is that it's more garbage than substance.

The voices are also patched up and such, being the voice actors from Crazy Taxi 2's cast.
Yes, you can play as Crazy Taxi 1's cabbies in Crazy Taxi 2 on the Dreamcast and possibly the PSP version.

Beat the Crazy Pyramid completely to unlock them.


How about we at least fix that lousy soundtrack they've dubbed in, and put the original voices back? Maybe even get the game sounding even more authentic with the original sounds?

You'll be needing some files, which are below.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You have to remove the space between the "google" and ".com" to access the links. Steam is picky about things sometimes, especially links.

As an added precaution, I've created a few mirrors and a MEGAPACK option. Follow the same instructions as above to access them.

UPDATE: I have included both the above method and new hyperlink methods to the downloads sections. If a link appears removed, the second one will still work using the above workaround.

UPDATE MAY2025: I've stopped using oDrive for hosting, as there was a severe cyberattack that happened to it and other things. I'm fortunate to be able to still have and use my Steam now. Don't worry, takes more than some greedy gonks after gamerscore and games to stop me! That said, avoid interacting with VoxelVarmint on Xbox at all costs!

The All-In-One MEGAPACK is a pre-made compilation of mods from the older MEGAPACKs, set up to be the easiest way to plug-and-play. It also includes both the ALL and CT1 music packs, no worries there. Just check the documentation and name some folders around, you'll be alright!

The Old-Style "Take-Your-Pick" pack format is also available, though it may see some updates as well, way down the line!

Lastly an easy-to-use Installer-Style version of the MEGAPACK is planned for development, will make sure the guide has it in stock as well!

In order to extract these, use 7zip, it's a near essential program by now.

If you use 7zip, right click the file and extract them to a folder of the same name, as in,

"Extract to "...\"

You should end up with the files in subdirectories that match up with the "Crazy Taxi" Steam directory.

Now they're ready for placement! Let's roll!

Alright, what do you do with these files, you ask?


Right click Crazy Taxi in your Steam Library, click Properties, then click the tab called Local Files. Under that you'll find Browse Local Files, which when clicked will open up the game's file directory in your file browser.


Using the overall structure of the extracted files / folders as a guide, you can figure out where the files go, but to be specific...

Crazy Taxi is where VOICE01.AFS goes.

This contains all the original voice clips, and of course, the original voice acting too.

music_adx should be where the .ADX files go.

The Music (.ADX) files are named exactly like the stock stuff, but contain the original good stuff!

Crazy Taxi is where everything related to sound effects goes.

The Sound Effects are in .AFS files, and are labeled as BINC1/2/3.AFS and LANDDC1/2.AFS .

All-In-One MEGAPACK Users:

Just copy the contents of the AIO MEGAPACK's "Crazy Taxi" folder and paste them into your Steam "Crazy Taxi" folder, overwriting everything when asked.

Depending on if you wanna be all safe and such, you could make backups.
Not sure why you would want to though, the stuff included is much better quality!


Now we're ready to make some CRAZY Money! (In-Game, that is!)

Since the soundtrack for the Steam release has several extra tracks to fill compared to the original game's lineup, I decided to look to later Crazy Taxi games for music to fill the gaps.

There is also a Crazy Taxi 1 only version included in an alternate folder, which tries harder to stay faithful to the original soundtrack. Thanks to BorbingoBoy for suggesting it being a thing!

All music, sounds, and more were mixed and properly compiled using adxencd.exe, a much more useful tool than some soccer game's sound file converter tool. I'll be detailing how to use my tool of choice later on.

I've put a lot of work into this, originally was gonna release this kind of thing ages ago, but hard drive failures aplenty set it back quite often.

After doing some research on the original PC port of Crazy Taxi, I decided to put together a quick compilation of tracks that should work with it. Same quality tracks, same rockin' tunes, easy to install!

Do you happen to know of Crazy Taxi 2 on the Dreamcast? Around Apple is my jam!

It had DLC long before it was used and abused, and this was actually cool and FREE!

I'll boast for a bit, as I have one of the highest scores for Crazy Taxi 2's Another Day mode.




No, I didn't edit the files. While it's possible, I don't mess around when it comes to setting records.

Yes, I have access to the files, and I'm hoping someone out there will step up to the challenge of beating that score.

If you've got a Dreamcast and Crazy Taxi 2, you're welcome to use the this custom DreamExplorer image you can burn to a CD-R, get the DLC for Crazy Taxi 2, and challenge my score!

I don't expect you to show any proof of accomplishment, but hey, at least you get some game-time with your Dreamcast!

Alexvgz and CookiePLMonster have been working on a project that restores the majority of content from the original game via code rather than .exe edits.

With the absolutely out-of-nowhere announcement of SEGA de-listing not just Crazy Taxi but pretty much EVERY SINGLE EXISTING VERSION of their older titles, and not just from here but from EVERY SINGLE PLATFORM THEY EXIST ON... With many of these titles likely never having considerable "remake" or "remaster" capabilities (SEGA Bass Fishing, anyone?), and others risking fading into absolute obscurity because their original forms become completely inaccessible to the average person...

The company has a lot more to lose than the interest and goodwill of it's fans and the communities who supported them. They will lose out on being able to be the bleeding-edge tech bunch they set out to be, and as such, will hemorrhage islands-worth of currency of all shapes and sizes trying too hard to chase the stars, their wings burning out after flying too close to the closest and largest one in our own galaxy.

I'm not going to sit idly by while one of the better developers and entertainers out there allow their heads to go so big that, combined with all the other big heads out there, makes what little rays of hope we were clinging to and trying to enjoy life with, fade away into a seemingly unyielding darkness.

Something's gotta give, and I know people are feeling this more and more, every day, every waking hour, even feeling it as nightmares in their sleep. You know, sleep? When we should be dreaming? Not tossing and turning in painful agony because all the fun is drained out of us during our non-sleep times? Whatever happened to letting people be able to dream on at all?



I'll keep this reasonably brief here at the top.

DON'T DE-LIST THE GAMES.
STOP KILLING THE FUN.
RESIST DEMONIZING AND DESTROYING YOUR FANS.
BE WILLING TO LISTEN AND NEGOTIATE, DO NOT IGNORE AND OPPRESS.

These points, all in detail, below, in their own sections...

If you want to make way for a big compilation of everything you're currently willing to de-list, keep the bundles of these accessible and able to be purchased. The individual standalone titles, sure, those can be a slog to put into a single cart, so keeping any and all bundles intact will suffice. And if that's not an option, any of these "remasters" or "remakes" or "new entries" must have the utmost quality control , NEVER skimp out on the goodness and attentions to detail your player base knows and loves, even if it costs BOTH of us extra , and ABSOLUTELY make EVERY EFFORT to DO YOUR BEST with ALL OF IT.

When something that still works for many people is removed or tried to be taken away, there is a reasonable and very serious amount of push-back to be expected. With this many things being taken away, all at once, with no real noticeable alternative presented up front, the ramifications of ripping out the lifebloods and goodwills of your followers will be devastatingly severe!

We get it, licensing things like music and businesses to show up in your games, with how things are in the current landscape, is one of the most difficult things to bother with. There's reasons people like this guide though, and why it's so well recieved. It allows us to enjoy Crazy Taxi as it SHOULD be enjoyed, especially by some of it's veteran fans, myself included:

Our Taxis RUMBLING, our grip on our Wheels FIRM, Ourselves able to be IN CONTROL, our Radios BLASTING the Iconic and Absolutely POWERFUL punk rock songs of THE OFFSPRING and BAD RELIGION, our hearts beating wildly CRAZY for not just the AWESOME loads of shiny points at the end of the day, but also the sheer amount of FUN we should be having ENTERTAINING our fares with our AMAZING DRIVING!

There's solutions to licensing things that could, in theory, work without breaking the bank and budget. It takes some faith in your audience, and knowing and understanding not just what all we're wanting, but how much we'd be willing to help YOU, SEGA, offset the costs of licensing these things again to begin with.

The idea is simple: include it ALL in the base game, and if not feasible, have it ALL as a purchasable DLC option, or even both.
The result, also simple: the fans, even prospective newcomers, will easily and gladly get excited, maybe reignite their passion and hype for what made the originals the coolest, and will show you, with their wallets and goodwill, that if given the ability to enjoy the games as such, can help offset the cost of not just licensing but the development of the game as well.

Without a naturally occurring way for older fans to enjoy something like Sonic Adventure or Crazy Taxi or even SEGA Bass Fishing as it were, you not only rob us of the entertainment value but also the willingness and care to even want to hear or buy it anymore in the first place.

There are bad eggs in every community, whether they be what you consider legitimate or illegitimate. Denying ALL of them the ability to have CHOICE and limiting their options all across the board like this... This is NOT THE WAY.

The resulting backlash you are seeing isn't without good reason on the fanbase's part.

Some are longtime fans who know things can be better, and have seen in SEGA one of the last hopes among dozens upon dozens of other businesses rigidly following a dark, destructive, overly-reactive path to dominating the world and outright enslaving anyone who chooses to follow them.

Some are creative and know how a good game works and what fun is and can be, many of which having learned and grown to be so from playing and enjoying games by SEGA. Some even dreamed of working alongside you, and failing that, found ways to help you from the shadows you were feeling surrounded by for such a long time.

Plenty of people are absolutely emotional about this, in many different ways.
Some feel SADNESS that they can't enjoy any of these games anymore, not even as they were, losing their hope for fun nearly hundred-fold.
Many are filled with RAGE that they are being demanded to do the equivalent "Buy More Product!" as if it were a drug that a massive and criminally obtuse organization is pushing upon it's once glad-to-do-so customers who are now being expected to just keep injecting it and be happy about it. It's the kind of infuriating emotion that can easily paint the streets RED.
The WORLD is at times engulfed with DISGUST at seeing one of the last of the true blue heroes, quickly boosting themselves into the darkness and returning covered in their own flames and coated in the same crimson-tinged, darkness-wielding aura so many of their rivals have donned for the past several decades.

And some... Some aren't afraid, and some will never have fear again. They've learned something important from the seemingly Unyielding Darkness the world has tried to deal unto them. Some may even point out it's a phrase they learned directly from the source. Some will never turn back, and they will FIGHT for the freedoms they knew in their youth, not just for the good of themselves, but for the greater good of EVERYONE.

This brings us to the final point...

With the world feeling as absolutely ill as it is, and the human race, as a species, existing in dread and fearing the powers and machinations they put in place, we have reasons to be upset, but also reasons to seek peace and make ourselves heard in seeking that peace.

We absolutely do need to be FEARLESS, and not foolishly so,and be willing to hear each other out, to LISTEN, and more importantly, NEGOTIATE, because without the ability to come to better terms on something we obviously don't agree on.

The more the larger and obviously better-equipped entities try to silence and even destroy those who helped them get to where they are in the now, the more the oppressed will become their own rigid-bodied beings, and refuse to bow to these entities. They will have had enough of it, and they will put away the childish things to be heard and get their points across.

There is something to be said for balancing your own needs with the needs of others. To be respectful and not belligerently focus only on yourself and your own's needs. To not want to destroy others and never to desire to diminish their ability to live life to their full potential. To find ways to stop the fighting and seek peaceful and co-existent paths.

If we are to survive, or even have fun anymore, we must work towards it, it can't just happen on it's own. The truth must come into season somehow. Will the world listen to reason this time around?


Barring that... If peace fails to remain an option.... This old "rat" may be tired, may be aging, may even have been through several hellscapes and still lived to come back... Each and every time has made me stronger, and it is with this strength, I shout, the loudest I can, and with all the heart I got in me... A message for everyone:

It's been a few months, interesting things have happened between then and now, and some new things do spring forward.

Even in the aftermath of SEGA de-listing over 70 games across multiple platforms seemingly out of the blue, little glimmers and sparks of hope seem to be rekindling not only the flames in my heart, but the energy that SEGA needs to function.

What are you on about, VV?

I'm less angry and upset, perhaps more on the cautiously-optimistic (and in an educated way) about SEGA's decision to remove so many things in favor of a Subscription model.


"Why though?!" you may ask. Well, let's get some things straight:
While losing so much does stink worse than a pile of socks a comic book co-creator hasn't cleaned up in 30 years (Poor Roadkill, hard to pick up the mates and dates in the sewers smelling worse than the sewers... Do your laundry better, Turner!)... I don't have to be angry or packed with rage about it. Others can feel how they want, but I feel how I do for a few reasons.

What are the reasons?

Alright, hang on! Lemme shout it for ya!

1. Bleeding Edge Tech Powering Our Fun Times
I still have respect for SEGA and still love their games, they haven't always been "perfect" but they've done a lot over their lifespan to date, not just to be different than some competitors, but also be on the absolute bleeding edge of tech, be it with home console gaming or otherwise.

From the mechanical cranks of slot machines way back in Hawaii, to the beeps and blips of the 8-bit era, to the beats and jams pumped out of the synths in the 16-bit era, to the dawn of Virtua Fighting and other Virtua's alongside many of their greats that blasted into the arcades, right to the Dreamcast era happily grinding out some of their best first-party console experiences to date...

They've known how to make games fun, they've KNOWN fun, they STILL very well know it. They also know teams who know it and can pump it out harder and with more blast processing than some of the tech freelancers and modders in my shoes have been banging together for decades now. While what we've done is alright (heck, I'm absolutely thankful for all the support people have shown me not just for my work on this modpack, but in life in general, it's a rough one like no other), there's ample examples of their tech improving to be found in many of their games, dating back from Shenmue all the way to the "Like a Dragon / Yakuza" series. That brings us to the next point...

2. Ryu Ga Gotoku
Like a Dragon, this Studio has granted us some of the things we only dreamed would be possible.

We never expected to see "Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge" playable at home our lifetime, yet here we are now, even with it re-branded as "Sega Racing Classic 2" (over, as what Kris in the vids earlier called "the usual licensing twaddle"), running beautifully, within the Club SEGA's across the urban cityscapes seen in throughout the Like A Dragon series and many of it's related titles.

We never expected to see many other arcade-born titles resurface this way, either, be it "Sega Bass Fishing / GET BASS!" in it's purely-arcade form, "Motor Raid" plenty playable the same way either. Yet, we're here now, the former appearing in Like A Dragon games, the latter appearing in the sleuthing spin-off series with Like A Dragon's game play and perks (and playful quirks, too!) of Judgment, the list goes on.

And most recently, Ryu Ga Gotoku has done it again, with getting Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. on Steam, a most welcome addition to my collection and a game I love to frequently play, even on my rather dated rig. I have one of my loved ones to thank for getting me it as a gift, and showed me these games while checking out the Club SEGA's in many of the Like A Dragon Games. They know who they are, and I love 'em not just for that, but for teaching me that being an enjoyer of things means having fun with what you enjoy, being true to yourself in the process.

By the way, I ain't afraid to admit it, I rock it hard as Jeffry. Maybe not the best of the Jeffry mains out there, but I do enjoy showin' off some Mariner Power! May get some Jean in next, used to dig Vanessa Lewis (still do, need to de-rust the moves!) but somethin' about Jean's Karate-centered moveset seems more calculated a form of brutal than roughin' the opponents up with Pancratium, y'know?

Point is... The Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio... They've done the utmost to port, revise, optimize, and make things we, as enjoyers and rememberers of classics as well as those who love more modern experiences, dreamed of but never expected would be playable in the comfort of our own homes.

That latter bit said, I do wonder if they'll be involved in some of the handling of making the games on the subscription service shine their brightest. That brings us to the next point, regardless of if that studio is working on it or not...


3. No Offspring? Lost Your Religion? Not a Problem!
Licensing woes are always gonna be a pain, but we don't have to be limited or chained by them. Given the means and choices, be it of our own design or of natural occurrence, we can still enjoy things in all sorts of ways.

No, I'm not saying "patch the music back!" this time. In fact, while I am happy people who can still play Crazy Taxi with this modpack are still (and always) gonna be able to do so, there is room for the handlers of the porting of Crazy Taxi to the (very likely actively-being-worked on) "SEGA Gaming Service" to give it music that's just as FUN and actively punk-rock in vibe as The Offspring and Bad Religion's offerings back in the late '90s. (On SEGA Gaming Service: I'm unofficially calling it that, though it un-ironically would playfully loop around nicely to SEGA's origins as "Service Games", huh?)

Even if a soundtrack overhaul on their end isn't quite in the cards, they could very easily provide options within the program to mute music throughout the games played. This would allow us, the end-users and enjoyers of their games, to not only keep any still licensable / licensed music out of videos or calls showcasing our fun times of enjoying things, but also provide ways for us to enjoy our own flavors of soundtracks in our favorite media players of choice alongside these things!

You still enjoy SEGA, then?

Always have! Even in my youngest of years (and admittedly getting a bit -too- into enjoying some of the cracks a big plumbing pair and co. would soon fall deeper into), I also had a SEGA Genesis and Dreamcast, loved both. These two, in time, would easily overtake anything the more tight-gripped competitors would put out. When I began giving SEGA games even more a chance, and even learning more of their pasts and inner-workings, I found fun, happiness, maybe a little playful edge at times, and ways to express myself like no other medium could.

The former console was my aunt's, and for the time I had it at my place, it easily beat out the things other consoles could do. All the speed, all the action, so much fun! My favs are Comix Zone, the Streets of Rage series, and who could ever leave out the fun-lovin' nomad-like speediest blue critter ever, Sonic the Hedgehog! I beat Spinball once, did you know that?

The latter console I got into as a hand-me-down from my dad in 2003. I had heard it could do online stuff and so much more. I didn't get it to do things like that that year, but I never let that dream die, and lo-and-behold, thanks to the dedicated community that's grown since, I've made games for it, done online things with it, and even got Crazy Taxi 2's Another Day mode down-pat with some of the CRAZIEST scores ever!

That said...

Dreams Never Die!

They really don't! Some sleep, some adapt, some grow... Some do all 3!
