PSA: Doors (not what you think)
By David
A PSA about doors that isn't (necessarily) about whether to barricade them or not. While people can argue about that, there's other important stuff to know!

Increasing your chances of escaping Jason
There are several ways to increase your chances of escaping Jason. One of them is if you and your fellow counsellors work together by following some simple DOs and DO NOTs about specifc doors on specific maps.

This guide is about doors, even the ones on the inside. Everybody knows you can barricade and lock external doors right? This guide isn't about that, exactly. Let's go through the most common issues first about what NOT to do first and after that what you can DO with doors.

* External doors with a window
I call these glass doors, because Jason can destroy them in one hit. They are always in the same places, often in high traffic areas. They are different both in appearance, and that instead of barricading the door, you merely turn a key in the lock. If you lock one by accident, just unlock it again.

The golden rule:
NEVER lock these doors. That only kills counsellors who are on either side, since Jason can destroy it in one hit but counsellors cannot. Keep them closed only, so that Jason cannot shift through them. Jason is sometimes vulnerable to a stunning hit whether he breaks or opens the door, if he opens it, you can close it again to restun him later. If he breaks it, it's gone forever, but will no longer pose a threat to counsellors who don't know not to lock it.

The worst offending glass door is at the front of Packanack Lodge. It has no accessible windows at the front and sides, only around the back.
The second worst glass door is at Higgens Haven Lodge, the one closest to the outhouses. If it is locked, a counsellor has to run around and go up the stairs and dive through a window.
Those two are the most problematic, probably noone will care if you lock other glass doors, but you should not lock them, only keep them closed.

* The small houses east of Packanack Lodge
We return to Packanack for the worst offenders. East of the lodge there are some small one room houses with only one external door and no accessible external windows. You can probably guess where I am going already.

Unless Jason is chasing you, it is best NOT to lock these doors. These houses are frequent spawn points for car parts and car keys, so you should definitely search them, however if you lock these doors and escape by window, which people usually do, nobody can ever return to them and Jason will never destroy the door. Even if people search properly and empty the house before leaving, sometimes people can die close to the house and some of their items will warp inside it.

So what can we do with doors? okay.

First of all, if Jason is chasing you, it can help sometimes to DO keep external AND internal doors closed. He cannot shift through them. If he opens or rages through them, he cannot break out of the animation before you can hit him with melee once. Beware that he can rage through the wall instead, but either way slows him down and makes him vulnerable.

Some internal doors can be locked from one direction, which slows down Jason and gives you more options. A good example is the largest house in Blairs Cove on Higgens Haven has a room with two lockable doors, another two doors, and an open window, it's a good spot for juking Jason for 5 minutes or more, especially since that window leads to the next largest house in Blairs Cove.

What else are doors good for?
When they are open they make surprisingly good cover to hide behind. You can fit your entire body behind a door. It is a risky tactic but it can work. You can also hide inside a room next to an open door, in some locations Jason can see the entire room through the doorway.. except for the blind spot behind the door, unless he comes inside. Again, it's risky.

Q. So... about barricading all external doors besides the ones mentioned?
A. Everyone has their own playstyle. However if you barricade a door next to an open unbroken window, that is generally helpful all around. I will do this when I come across such doors.

Same experience with doors hence partially the reason for the guide, sometimes they are helpful. You learn not to trust houses with intact doors after the first 5 minutes, if Jason is chasing you it's probably barricaded, hope for a window.
