Rusty Lake: Roots now has achievements! Horray!

This guide is only meant as a reference on how to get every achievement in the game, with specific solutions. Also, the guide is not a full walkthrough on the game. You can always get a stage's solution by clicking the small cog icon on the top left and then pressing the "Walkthrough" button. Here you'll only learn which specific moments you get each of the game's achievements.


This guide is SPOILER HEAVY. If you haven't played through the game yet, i don't advise you do read ANY of the guides i've posted so far, including this one.

Tell me in the comments if you spot anything wrong like a typo or anything. I'm not a native english speaker so there might be some grammar mistakes here and there.

Also if you got any of the achievements by any other means not explained here, please share with us in the comments so i can update the guide and give you proper credit.

Due to the fact that some achievements are missable, you might want to know how to backup your save file in case you want to restart the whole game just because of a simple achievement and isn't bothered to finish the whole game again.

You'll only actually need this in case you missed The Date achievement, because every other single one is either story related (can't be missed) or can be achieved even after you finish the game.

Check "The Date" section of this guide for a save file ready to the point where you can get the said achievement, if you're the lazy type.

Still, there you go:

1. First of all, if your game is open, CLOSE IT. Always avoid messing with game files with it open, you might corrupt your save. Then press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog. (Windows Key = Key with a flag on your keyboard);
   
   
2. Type in %APPDATA% including the % signs. Hit Enter;
   
   
3. Browse into: com.RustyLake.RustyLakeRoots\Local Store\#SharedObjects\RustyLakeRoots.swf ;
   
   
4. There should be a single .sol file called Tree11. Make a copy of it somewhere else on your computer (Desktop or Documents folder will do just fine) and then delete it from this original folder;
   
   
5. This game doesn't seem to have Steam Cloud support, so next time you boot up the game, it'll be like you never played it before. Do whatever you need to get the achievements you want;
   
   
6. Afterwards, close the game, replace the new save that the game will create with your backup, and your save will be just as it was before, but your achievement will remain completed;

Most likely the first one you'll get. As soon as you start planting the tree on James' very first stage.

In my country, we use to say that nipples are controversial. And so they seem to be on Rusty Lake too. Just enter the William's dead body nipple for the first time at stage 3 of the game.

Steam overlay kinda gliched on me when i got that one, thanks W-Cactus by telling me it triggers exactly when you place the last baby on the cribs.

Don't confuse this Elixir with the Elixir you make on the very final chapter of the game. You make this one on Stage 5. (Ignoring Mary's branch of course)



In case you forgot, the recipe is 3 + 4 + 4 + 5. ( ~ , x , x , o )

On Albert's very first stage, as soon as you grab the Moon Mask from the small password cabinet.

On Albert's 3rd stage, as soon as you grab Samuel's and Ida's eyes.

Surprisingly enough, this is not achieved during Frank's first stage, but on Rose's second stage. As soon as you grab the cup full of... "drink".



Rose is one nasty daughter of a Vanderboom. That is offensive enough.
Also that dog is the true villain of this series.

OR, as pointed out by @MobiusPizza, you can backup your save, start a new, get the achievement, then restore your old save. Refer to this guide section called "Save backup instructions".

Triggers on the stage where Frank finally recieves his letter from Emma. If you just started a new save for this one, just go progressing on the regular story until you reach Frank's branch and keep on with it, ignoring Leonard's and Rose's. You'll eventually reach the stage i mean. After giving him said letter, click on Harvey (the bird) at the window about 3 times or so, BACK OUT a screen and then you'll see it has gone away and the window will be shut. The words written on it will reveal that Dale Vandermeer was born on December 18th, 1930.

Finally, click on the date to get the achievement.

You can do the proper way, here's a few hints contributed by @MobiusPizza to get there fast:

• Always go to the most left branch whenever there's one.
  
• Briefcase code: 572
  
• Time at the clock: 8:25
  
• Baby bottles left to right: Milk - Water - Wine
  
• B+C+D-A: 126 Use the telescope to 62 to make the bird appear.

This one triggers when William is finally born again and Rose hold him on her arms.

On Rose's third stage, as soon as you make her wear Laura's dress.

As the name implies, you get it as soon as you get the last family secret emblems.

This is a funny one. As soon as you get into Rose's first stage, type "CUBEESCAPE" in the ouija board. THEN LEAVE and click on Rose It will result in Rose saying: "My daughter will return to Rusty Lake" and you also get the achievement.

You get it by crafting the secret White Cube on William's alchemy lab.

The recipe is:

Earth + Water = Clay
Clay + Water = Plant
Plant + Water = Algae

Algae + Air = Small Eggs

Now craft a new Algae using the same recipe above.

Algae + Small Eggs = FISH


Earth + Fire = Lava
Lava + Air = Stone
Stone + Fire = Metal

Now craft a new Stone using the same recipe above.

Metal + Stone = Blade

Earth + Water = Clay
Clay + Water = Plant
Plant + Air = Tree

Blade + Tree = Wood
Wood + Fire = Camp Fire
Camp Fire + Air = Coal

Coal + Fire = DIAMOND

Fish + Diamond = WHITE CUBE

Next time you fry a fillet of fish at home, don't add diamonds unless you want a stupid white cube of memories

You get it by crafting the secret Black Cube on William's alchemy lab.

First craft a WHITE CUBE from the recipe above.

Sand + Fire = Glass

Earth + Fire = Lava
Lava + Air = Stone
Stone + Fire = Metal
Metal + Fire = Electricity

Electricity + Glass = LAMP


Lamp + Egg = Crow
Crow + White Cube = BLACK CUBE

You get it by crafting a secret delicacy called Rusty Lake Cocktail on William's alchemy lab.

Earth + Water = Clay
Clay + Water = Plant
Plant + Lamp = Fruit

Learn how to craft BLADE and ELECTRICITY on both Cube sections above.

Blade + Electricity = Blender

Blender + Fruit = FRUIT JUICE



Earth + Fire = Lava
Lava + Air = Stone
Stone + Air = Sand
Sand + Fire = Glass
Glass + Water = Glass with water (who would've thought...)

Now craft more Sand, good sand only, from mother russia!

Earth + Water = Clay
Clay + Water = Plant
Sand + Plant = Grain

Grain + Glass with water = VODKA


Vodka + Fruit Juice = RUSTY LAKE COCKTAIL


Fun fact: This drink seems to be the same that was served to the guests on Rusty Lake Hotel.
Nevermind, i was being completely dumb. The drinks look very different.

Triggers on the alchemy lab at the very end of the game, after you give the elixir to Aldous and he transforms into Mr. Crow and open his wings.

That was fun, loved playing through the entire game again just for the achievements. This is also the very first Rusty Lake game in steam to have achievements.

To the developers: Please add achievements to Rusty Lake: Hotel as well
