June's full strawberry moon rises this week, lifting over the horizon Friday as a signal that berries are ripening and summer is high. - Moon rise Friday June 9 is 8:22 p.m. in the east-southeast-usa.

Native Americans named the moons based on seasonal changes that aligned with hunting, planting or weather patterns. According to the Farmers Almanac, the strawberry moon was used by Algonquin tribes. In Europe June's moon was given the moniker the rose moon. Regardless of the pink-hued names, the strawberry moon will not be red.
