In case you haven't played the game to completion yet, this guide will be talking about EVERYTHING in the game. If you haven't completed it then do it now, or watch my walkthrough

DISCLAIMER
Everything I talk about in this guide is my own theories and ideas. I am in no way stating that any information is official, these are all just observations I have made.

IMPORTANT WORDS
I refer to the protagonists as the 'Boy', his sister as 'Sister' and the NPC children as 'Children'.

GUIDE CONTENTS
This guide will be covering 5 areas:
1. My own timeline of what happened
2. Gameplay
3. Hazards
4. Environments
5. Story Related Stuff
1. My own timeline of what happened
PART 1: Backstory
Before the Boy was born, his Father joined the war. After returning, the Father got married and had 2 kids, The Boy and the Sister. After settling down, the Father needed to get a job to support his family because they weren’t doing very well financially. The list of jobs the Father had (in no particular order) were a mineshaft worker, a butcher, a factory worker but the last job was always a lumberjack.

PART 2: The Boy’s Backstory
The Boy wasn’t a very popular or social kid. Any kids he tried to hang out with would both abandon him or bully and hurt him. Because of this, the Boy spent a lot of time with his Sister in the forest, just messing around and exploring. It was around this time the Boy had developed his fear of insects and Spiders.

PART 3: The Fatal Drop
Many of the Children that the Boy knew had a treehouse somewhere in the woods. Being jealous of this, the Boy asked his Father to build them a tree house. The Father built the tree house and the Boy and his Sister would hang out around it a lot. However, on one fatal day the ladder that lead up to the tree house suddenly snapped and both the Boy and his Sister went crashing down to the ground. The impact had killed both of them, but at different times. Because of this, their souls weren’t able to find each other and the Boy was stuck in LIMBO until he completed his journey.

PART 4: Life flashing before the Boy’s eyes
The entire game is the Boy’s relieving his entire life before he hit the ground and die. Finally, after completing his life, the Boy crashes through the plane glass as he finally escapes LIMBO. The Boy wakes up moments later, before then meeting up with his Sister who was patiently waiting for him.

PART 5: Final Notes
After completing the game, the menu screen then shows the broken ladder to the tree house, along with a decomposing body which is both the Boy and his Sister.
2. Gameplay Themes and Ideas
GLOWING EGGS
The Boy was very fond of collecting random objects he found.

THE BOY IS EXTREMELY ATHLETIC
The Boy is shown to be very athletic (He can run without running out of breath, can climb trees, poles and rope with ease and can lift himself up onto ledges) and was a very active child.

THE CANNOT SWIM
The Boy never learned how to swim or has an extreme fear of drowning that causes him to freeze up when in water.

OTHER CHILDREN RUNNING AWAY
The Boy is a loner and doesn’t fit well with others. This is shown when the first Child makes a fake Spider as a way to deter the kid and keep him away. This is also seen when the Children set up traps.

GLOWING WORMS
The Glowing Worms are the Boy’s intrusive thoughts that he often acts on (Such as carelessly jumping into pits, spikes, water or allowing himself to be crushed).

BLACK CREATURES
The Black Creatures are the Boy’s rational thoughts that snap him back into reality.

FURRY CREATURE
The furry creature is most likely a pet the Boy owned.

RAIN CREATOR MACHINE
The Boy was very interested in Science and would make a lot of inventions.

BALLOONS
The Boy was very fond of balloons.

GIANT INSECTS
The Boy has a deep fear of insects and always sees any insect as a MASSIVE CREATURE instead of their actual size.

ROTATING FACTORY
The Boy worked a lot with mechanics and machinery.

MAGNETS
The Boy experimented with Magnets during his Science projects.

THE MINE CART
The Boy visited the mineshafts with his Father and got to experience being in a mine cart.
3. Hazards Themes and Ideas
DROWNING
The Boy never learned how to swim or has a fear of swimming.

SPIKES
The Boy has a fear of needles.

BEAR TRAPS
The Boy’s Father took the Boy hunting many times.

BOULDERS
The Boy had seen rocks crashing in the mineshafts.

THE SPIDER
The Boy has arachnophobia and sees all Spiders as huge, deadly creatures who actively try to murder him.

TRIPWIRE CONTAINERS
The Boy has seen a lot of deadly machinery in the mineshafts.

THE HOSTILE CHILDREN
The Boy often had a lot of bullies who constantly liked to harass and physically harm him.

BUZZ SAWS
The Boy’s Father worked in a slaughterhouse and the Boy got to see Buzz Saws a lot.

ELECTRICITY
The Boy had some horrible experiences working with electricity.

TURRETS
The Boy’s Father was in the war.

GRAVITY SHIFTING
As the Boy was climbing the ladder to his treehouse, the ladder snapped and the Boy had a sudden shift in gravity.
4. Environment Themes and Ideas
THE FOREST
The Boy and his Sister spent a lot of time playing in the woods.

BROKEN TREES
The Boy’s Father was a lumberjack for a brief period of time.

WEIRD MANMADE STRUCTURES
The Boy’s Father would often make different treehouses and structures for his kids to play on.

THE BOAT
The Boy’s Father would take him fishing.

GIANT WOOD STUMPS
The Boy’s Father was a lumberjack and would cut a lot of trees. Because the Boy and his Sister were very active, they would often jump and play around the chopped down trees.

THE CHILDREN'S TREEHOUSE
All the Children had a lot of tree houses but because they didn’t like the Boy, they would refuse him access, which caused The Boy to ask for his own tree house.

THE CAVERNS
The Boy and his Sister were very adventurous and would often explore caves.

THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE
The Boy’s Father worked in a slaughterhouse.

SEWER SYSTEM
The Hotel the Boy lived in often had a lot of problems when it came to pipes.

THE RUNDOWN HOTEL
The Boy and his family lived in a rundown Hotel (As shown by the Arrow Sign pointing down).

TIRE FACTORY
The Boy’s Father worked in a tire factory.

THE FACTORY
The Boy’s Father worked in a factory that the Boy wasn’t sure of what it was.

THE MINESHAFTS
The Boy’s Father worked in the mineshafts.

WAR GROUNDS
The Boy’s Father was in the war and would often retell his experiences.

THE FINAL TRIAL
The Boy is about to finish LIMBO and has to pass his final test, his life flashing before his eyes.
5. Story Themes and Ideas
HANGING BODIES
The Hanging Bodies represent the multiple failed attempts the Boy has made in the past.

HALLUCINATION
The Boy is extremely desperate to end his journey through LIMBO and wants to reach his end destination.

CRASHING THROUGH A PLANE OF GLASS
As the Boy was climbing up the ladder to his treehouse, the ladder snapped and as he fell to his death, his neck snapped like a plane of glass being cracked.

MEETING HIS SISTER
Both the Boy and his Sister died from the fall and each one had to go through their own ‘Life flashing before their eyes’ before finally meeting up with each other.
Conclusion
And that is all. Now of course do feel free to comment your own theories or call me out on stuff that seems too far fetched.

@Harrison_W you make a very good point, plus a table saw would work much better with the theory the dad built them a tree house. Good addition!

I find the slaughterhouse link weak. No slaughterhouse I've heard of uses circular saws. Instead, the circular saws remind me of a woodshop, in which one can most likely find table saws, miter saws, and buzz saws - all circular saws - and indeed all these are present in my own dad's woodshop. Not only did he lose a part of his thumb to a table saw, but I personally find the table saw makes me uneasy in how I force myself slowly towards a large spinning blade as I feed it a piece of wood, and it almost looks as if it's the saw moving towards me. Perhaps the boy's fear of circular saw blades is similarly rooted, and his fear has manifested here as an inversion of the concept: the blade moves towards you instead of vice versa, and/or you are the piece on the table being fed. This to me is reinforced by the lumberjack/woodsman link and by how, when the saws aren't out to cut up the boy, they're often cutting up apparently wooden boxes.

@big floppa

Firstly yeah either 1 or 2 could be very true. Limbo is a purgatory and a coma could definitely be a possibility.

Secondly what do you mean by images?

Now because i dont like (very) bad endings, ive come to 2(3?) seperate conclusions.

1: The accident happened but it wasnt fatal and the boy is in a coma/nightmare

2: Its a made up scenario in his head.

I think 2 is more likely with your plane of glass thing, you dont just survive your neck getting snapped.

By the way, could you give me images?
