A Better Guide To Gmod Stranded
By Syresiath
The original guide is a bit lengthy and wordy, so this is a shortened version. This also has some binds and grinding techniques for more advanced players.

Make sure you go AFK in stranded while reading this guide.

How to Survive
To leave spawn, you just walk into the special wall in the spawn box.
______________________________________________________________________________

Your Thirst, Hunger, and Fatigue Bars are constantly draining, so you'll need to keep them in check.

To refill thirst, press e in a body of water (doing this while standing in shallow water will bottle it)

To refill hunger, you will need to plant crops. Start out by foraging (pressing e on the ground); this will give you seeds. To plant the seeds, look where you want to plant them, hold q, and click on the seeds in the F2 (resources) menu.

To refill Fatigue, sleep with a prop over your head. The sleep button is in the top left of the commands menu (under resources while holding q). This will drain your hunger and thirst, so fill them above 1/2 before sleeping. Sleeping on sleeping furniture will speed it up.

To make props, hold q, click on one of the dropdown tabs, and click on the prop you want to build.
How to Thrive
To get the resources needed to make things, you need to start by punching trees and rocks.
To make tools, you need workbenches, the stone workbench being the first one. To make it, open the structures tab, click on the stone workbench, and create the blueprint. The stone and wood can be added as you go, so your inventory size doesn't matter.
Your structures tab may not look like this, but the stone workbench should be easy enough to find

Once the workbench is done, just collect the resources needed to make the tool you want and make it. Any level restrictions will be listed in the tool's description.

After that just keep getting better tools and structures.

Levels and experience are gained by doing things related to each skill. The next section provides a short overview of each skill; if you think you can figure out how to level your skills, you probably won't need to read it, although there are many useful binds for skill grinding.
How to Level Each Skill
Skip this section if you can figure out how to level skills.

For the binds (Ex. bind key "gms_MakeCombination Cooking Fried_Meat"), replace key with the key you want to press to execute the command.
Enter binds in the console (usually opened with `). If this doesn't open the console, go to options, click the "advanced" button on the bottom, and enable developer console.

____________________________________________________________________________

Survival
The main level is the Survival level.
Experience in this is gained by leveling other skills; each level in any other skill gives 20 experience in survival. This is the skill that determines your player level. Leveling survival provides perks and inventory size.
____________________________________________________________________________

Mining
Level up mining by mining. That's it.

There aren't really any special ways to level it; just use +attack in console. (-attack to cancel)
____________________________________________________________________________

Lumbering
Punch trees.

Later on, you'll want to use a stone hatchet to level this since trees only hold 200 wood. On most servers, trees can be planted almost inside of each other, so do that if you can.
____________________________________________________________________________

Harvesting
Level up harvesting by harvesting things like crops and sprouts or by foraging.

The best way to level this is by foraging with a shovel. +use is recommended.
Later on you may want to level this with grain.
____________________________________________________________________________

Planting
Level this up by planting things.

There isn't any special way to do this; just plant whatever seems easiest to you. (Grain and trees are best.)
____________________________________________________________________________

Hunting
Level this up by killing Zombies, Headcrabs, and Antlions.

The best way to level this is just running between the antlion hives and killing zombies on the way.
____________________________________________________________________________

Smelting
Level this up by smelting things.

The best way to do this is by smelting one iron repeatedly using: bind key "gms_MakeCombination gms_copperfurnace Iron" will help a lot with this.
bind key "gms_MakeCombination gms_stonefurnace Copper" for copper.
____________________________________________________________________________

Swimming
Level this up by drowning yourself. You don't gain experience if you are out of oxygen, though.

The best way to level this is to do it while also leveling mining; just dig up a stone with a shovel and mine it underwater.
You can also level fishing with swimming if you use +jump and +attack while looking down in water.
____________________________________________________________________________

Weapon Crafting
Level this up by crafting things.

The best (and honestly only good) way to level this is by making a single saltpetre reapeatedly, using: bind key "gms_makeCombination gms_gunchunks Saltpetre"
____________________________________________________________________________

Stealing
Level this up by stealing (unlocked at survival level 30).

The best way to do this is by getting a friend and binding "gms_steal" to a button you can spam ( bind key "gms_steal"). Just drop a single resource and have both of you steal it quickly.
____________________________________________________________________________

Fishing
Level up fishing by fishing.

Before you level this, you may want to grind for bait by foraging (preferrably with a shovel).
The best way to level fishing is by using +attack with +jump (as explained in swimming).
____________________________________________________________________________

Cooking
Level up cooking by cooking.

The best ways to do this are by cooking fried meat and fried fish. The binds bind key "gms_MakeCombination Cooking Fried_Meat" and bind key "gms_MakeCombination Cooking Fried_Fish" help with this.
Important Stuff and Binds
All of your props despawn a short time after you log off of a server, but your tools, inventory, and skills remain untouched. Because of this, fill your inventory with important things before leaving (such as whatever is needed to make furnaces).

@tactical toad I haven't played in like 3 years, but from what I remember you'd use winches/elastic ropes to make the fridge move. Probably some invisible no-collided props as well
