Introduction
Greetings. ( This is my first Community Guide, so please be gentle :] )

(If you can't change the resolution from the settings menu, then this guide is for you! Otherwise, you can move along.)

If you are like me and can't change the resolution in the settings menu, don't settle for black bars or stretching, because I have a solution!

Explanation
The game saves the settings in the Windows registry under the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tasharen Entertainment Inc.\Windward

The screen resolution is stored as four different hexadecimal values. Two for width and two for height.

They look something like this in RegEdit:

We can manually change these values and it should have the same effect as if we did it from the settings menu.

Solution #1 (.reg file)
The first way to change the registry values is to create a .reg file and execute it.

Step 1.
Open notepad (or the text editor of your choice).

Step 2.
Covert the width and height of your desiered resolution to hexadecimal. You can do this with either the online tool or the conversion table below.

Online Tool
Enter your desiered width into the left field, press Convert, then copy the number in the right field and keep it somwhere safe (we will need it in the next step).
Then do the same for the height.
(Click here to open the tool)[www.binaryhexconverter.com]

Conversion Table
Look for the resolution you want on the left, and copy values to the right of them.
(The width & height on the left is in decimal, and the ones on the right are in hexadecimal)
Name
Width
Height
Width
Height
4K
3840
2160
F00
870
Full HD
1920
1080
780
438
1600x900
1600
900
640
384
HD
1280
720
500
2D0

For example, if you want the resolution 1920x1080 you will get 780x438.

Step 3.
Paste the following text into the text editor
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tasharen Entertainment Inc.\Windward] "Screenmanager Resolution Width_h182942802"=dword:WIDTH "Screenmanager Resolution Height_h2627697771"=dword:HEIGHT "Screen Width_h513488239"=dword:WIDTH "Screen Height_h3008911926"=dword:HEIGHT
Replace WIDTH and HEIGHT with numbers you converted to earlier.
(Note: Both WIDTH and HEIGHT appear twice, four times in total)

(It would look like this if you want 1920x1080)

Step 4.
Save the file.
You can name the file whatever you want, as long as it has ends with .reg.

Step 5.
Execute the file.
Double click on the file, and press "Yes" if Windows asks you if you want to proceed.

Done!
Start the game and it should be in the resolution you've chosen.
Solution #2 (RegEdit)
The second way to change the registry values is with RegEdit.

Step 1.
Open RegEdit.
To do this, press Win+R at the same time. This should open a window called Run. Enter regedit into the textfield and press Enter.

Step 2.
Find the Windward key.
The easiest way to do this is to search for it. Press Ctrl+F to open the Find window. Then enter Windward into the textfield. Make sure Keys is checked and that Values and Data are unchecked. Then press Find Next.

This should take you to a key named WindWard located in another key called Tasharen Entertainment Inc.
(Keys are the folder-like things on the left side of the window)

Step 3.
Replace the resolution values.
The resolution values are named:
  • Screen Width_h513488239
  • Screen Height_h3008911926
  • Screenmanager Resolution Width_h182942802
  • Screenmanager Resolution Height_h2627697771
The values are shown on the right side of the window. Find the values listed above and double click them (one at a time). This should open the "Edit" window. Click the Decimal radio button then enter your desiered width or height (depending on if the value has "height" or "width" in its name) into the textfield.

(For example if I want the resolution 1920x1080, I should enter 1080 in both values with height in their name, and 1920 in the other two)

Done!

thanks, I don't know how I screwed up the resolution but I was stuck at some weird res where there were thin black bars along the edges and couldn't figure out how to fix it. never would have thought to look in the registry
